KIC Posted February 24, 2012 #1 Posted February 24, 2012 A friend had a Hyosung gt650r donated to his non-profit organization and he was aking me about selling the bike. I had never heard of the Brand. I have been reading about them but wondering if anybody had any personal experience with this brand of bike including parts accessibility etc.
ragtop69gs Posted February 25, 2012 #2 Posted February 25, 2012 There's an independent shop near me that sell's Hyosong bikes. I questioned them about the brand and according to him they have a good reliability rating and a growing support structure throughout the USA. I don't know anyone who owns one or who has ridden one.
XV1100SE Posted February 25, 2012 #3 Posted February 25, 2012 Looked at the bikes for my girlfriend when they came to Kitchener a couple years ago. Less than 2 years they closed up. Got the same pitch from the sales person that they were expanding...looking at their Canadian site they have 10 dealers in Ontario. http://www.nationalmotorsports.ca/
painterman67 Posted February 25, 2012 #4 Posted February 25, 2012 I almost bought one 3 yrs ago. did a little research and at the time they had just enterd the mc dealorship. Turns out originaly hyosung made bike frames for harley and suzuki. the suzuki 650gt and the harley vrod. looke real close and youll see the resemblance. Last I heard they designed their own motor and started their own bike company instead of frame company. Not sure of how well they holod up but I did like the one that looked like a vrod and on test ride felt a lot stronger than hondas 650. David
flb_78 Posted February 25, 2012 #6 Posted February 25, 2012 It's a Korean ripoff of the Suzuki SV650. Hyosung is a giant mega-corporation in Korea and has been around for 60+ years and have their fingers in a lot of different pies. http://www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/hyosung-gt650-vs-suzuki-sv650-14284.html
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted February 25, 2012 #7 Posted February 25, 2012 I am not sure "rip off" is really the correct way of putting it. They made most of the parts that made up the 650 for suzuki along with parts for other bikes, yes I believe Harley was one of them. One day someone decided to put all those parts together in their own factory and produce/market a machine in their own name...... I have ridden one... I believe it was the 650, it was about 5 years ago..... I had nothing negative to say about it.... I do know they are an inexpensive bike, we have a dealer here and he sells a few, not many but he is out selling the Royale Enfield dealer locally so life is not too bad I guess.

RandyR Posted February 25, 2012 #9 Posted February 25, 2012 member wes0778 is Walter. His son is Wes. Wes has a Hyosung that has been at several VentureRider Rallies in the recent past. You'll see it in the pictures from Vogel and MD in 2009/10 (I think)
DragonRider Posted February 25, 2012 #10 Posted February 25, 2012 Jamie, aka wingman bought one for his wife, it gave them pretty good service, until they turned it over to their son, who rode it lilke it was stolen, it didnt hold up to well, had a hard time finding a shop to work on it......I rode it once, nice starter bike, that is the bike she laid down at Vogel in 2007. Hers was not the GT model but hers sure did resemble the VRod.
MAINEAC Posted February 26, 2012 #11 Posted February 26, 2012 I know Hyosung makes a pretty good ATM.... let's face it the Koreans have come a long way...
rod Posted February 26, 2012 #12 Posted February 26, 2012 I bought one and really liked it. It is the same a Suzuki SV 650 pretty much. Sole it because it was not comfortable for me. Had a blast when I road it. Rod
greg_in_london Posted February 26, 2012 #13 Posted February 26, 2012 A friend of mine is a dealer for them. The 125s sold much better than the 650s, but there dioesn't seem to be much wrong with them. If you look at the details, they're much less polished than the equivalent suzuki, but then you pay less for them. They are certainly in a different league to some of the chinese bikes that fall apart in front of your eyes. I've seen dealers for them in Germany too, so I guess their spares backup must be pretty reasonable.
