KIC Posted February 22, 2012 #1 Posted February 22, 2012 I'm looking for any pictures of naked 1st Gens that are riders. Have a friend that has an 84 that the tupperware is pretty sun dried etc. Was thinking that instead of parting it out, maybe trying to strip it down and make a back up rider out of it. They look terrible plain naked, so I'm wondering how anybody dressed them up to make em look prettier than a 2nd Gen... dang...did I type that last part out loud ..?

Snaggletooth Posted February 22, 2012 #3 Posted February 22, 2012 I always fall back to this one for questions on "nekked" Ventures. It is one of our guys if I remember right. Zag or Zagger? He put a lot into this designing the leading edge front end and even tuned exhaust. Got to admire the creativity. Mike
Snaggletooth Posted February 22, 2012 #4 Posted February 22, 2012 If I ever get tired of mine the way it is it may very well end up looking something like these B&W shots. Some others have done some nice tricks to cleaning up the lines to. I like the blue one a lot, and I got nuttin' to say about the orange thing. Just throwing pics out there for ya. Mike
dingy Posted February 22, 2012 #5 Posted February 22, 2012 They don't get any more naked than this. Gary

Mike Any ideas on a cover that could be mounted in place of the trunk from some other bikes. I like to go out at times without the trunk on. Bike handles better in curves, and less weight, lower center of gravity. More get up & go. I not any good at making a part like this, me and fiberglass don't get along. Something from another bike that could be modded to be detachable would be nice. Gary
Snaggletooth Posted February 22, 2012 #8 Posted February 22, 2012 Gary, You looking for something flat that would only cover the mounting rack or something curved that would extend up and follow the line of the seat? Mike
dingy Posted February 22, 2012 #9 Posted February 22, 2012 Just something to cover air compressor cover and give it a little better look without the trunk. I wouldn't ride without trunk if I had wife on, so I don't need any passenger support. Gary
Snaggletooth Posted February 22, 2012 #10 Posted February 22, 2012 Been playing with making a form to build a rack cover that would look something like the one on this bike by heat shaping a single sheet of ABS for the body of it. Once I get the seams figured out and a clean way to mount it it might look alright. Scraped a few trial pieces so far. Only been playing with the idea for couple years. But I got stacks of ABS sheets so I can keep melting stuff for a while. Don't hold your breath. Mike
Yammer Dan Posted February 23, 2012 #11 Posted February 23, 2012 I like taking bags and trunk off. Different ride.

Snaggletooth Posted February 23, 2012 #13 Posted February 23, 2012 Sadly no it's not. I think it belongs to a member here though. Very well done and a lot of effort went into the project. It is slick no doubt about it. Beyond my talents. Mike
steve crossley Posted February 23, 2012 #14 Posted February 23, 2012 Mike is that blue bike yours? It looks better than anything Yamaha designed! thats my 86 ol blue . and thanks!.
Snaggletooth Posted February 23, 2012 #15 Posted February 23, 2012 Hi Steve, Is most the modification done the body fiberglass or ABS? Just curisous? Mike
KIC Posted February 23, 2012 Author #16 Posted February 23, 2012 Steve, Looked at your pictures. Beautiful bike !
steve crossley Posted February 23, 2012 #17 Posted February 23, 2012 back part of fairing false cover front fender and tail cover are all fiberglass.
Snaggletooth Posted February 23, 2012 #18 Posted February 23, 2012 You got mad skills there my friend. Very nice. Mike
steve crossley Posted February 23, 2012 #19 Posted February 23, 2012 thanks all ya maken my face turn all red. but it feels real good.
KIC Posted February 23, 2012 Author #20 Posted February 23, 2012 So ..I'm guessing that without a lot of "customization" that stripping the tupperware off of a 1st Gen doesn't make for a good looking rider.
Prairiehammer Posted February 23, 2012 #21 Posted February 23, 2012 What? You don't think this looks good!?
Yamamike Posted February 23, 2012 #22 Posted February 23, 2012 What? You don't think this looks good!? Looks like something out of Mad Max!! LOL

Gary Hey GARY HERE'S AN IDEA take the cover that goes over the battery and gas tank and turn it around measure it and cut off what you don"t need . You might have to make some kind of mounting bracket for ti though. Just a thought.
