Late 70s. Bought a 75 Honda XL350. Rode the heck out of it, in the dirt as much as the street. Then moved up to an XL500 which I rode mostly on the street, then a CB750 supersport for the street, and a Yammy TT500 for the dirt. The list goes on.

Today

87 Venture standard

85 Nighthawk 700s

82 CB900 custom

Non running 93 Katana 600 (just needs some tlc...and paint..)

I was 18 in 1973 and bought a Honda CL160 against my parents wishes. (ie... "I'm 18 and you can't stop me.") I joined the navy in 1975 and dad sold it. Got stationed in Hawaii in 1979 and bought a KZ400 to get around until the car arrived. Sold it in 1981. Feb 28, 2010 bought a 1996 RSTC and I'm still riding it everyday the weather allows.

Cushman Eagle at 14 (1969), didn't want it but I broke the frame jumping a berm that was in the middle of a pasture for no apparent reason. Just so happens that the Cushman belonged to my brother and he made me pay him for it. I think the engine wound up on a homemade generator or something. The CB77 Super Hawk that followed didn't fair much better. TS 185 Suzuki in the Navy followed by a long list of bikes up to now.

Well, First one "I" bought was in 75 (19 at the time)when I was in the USAF. Spent as much time off as on the road though.. 75 Suzuki TS400 two-stroke single cylinder. But I started riding dirt at the age of 12.

First legal street ride was a CL350 Honda in 1972. I was 20. I rode a friend's Allstate when I was 14. Built a Briggs and Stratton powered mini-bike when I was 15. Killed it when I was 16. First new bike was a CB750 when I was 22 and in the Army.

I was 20 and bought a new 78 Suzuki 550E while in Ft. Ridiculous, KS.

I was just a tad short on the cash and my dad loaned me $800. At that time I was making $425 a month as a lowly corporal. I promptly paid him off in 2 months living on $25 each month thanks to the barracks and chow hall. After that I took 33 days worth of leave, threw all the camping gear the bike would hold, and my 12 yr old brother on the back, (mom about had a coronary over that one) and rode 6600 miles around the country! Yhea, I had it bad even back then!!!!

It was a great bike and I wish I still had her!!

Hey Rev'n, where in Africa, and what were you doing there? I grew up a missionary's kid in Liberia in West Africa. We rode a lot of mini bikes and scooters over there.

I was 18 in 1964 and away at college. The gas station down the road from the dorm rented little Yamaha 80cc dirt bikes. man we were stylin on those things. One of the roomies got a Honda super 90 for Christmas, that bike was cool rode it then went to South America for a while and rode a friends DKW a German 200cc 2 stroke.Very nice comfortable bike. Came home in 68 bought a 1956 AJS 500 single, then a brand new 1969 Norton Fastback Comando, should never have sold that bike. From there:

1969 Yamaha 650 Candy Green and Cream (1st year)

1968 Triumph 650 TR6 with bags and a windshield

1972 Yamaha 650 Candy Red and Cream (first year of electric start

1972 BMW R75/5 759 with bags and a Butler Avon full fairing

1972 Montesa King Scorpion (250)

1974 Suzuki RL 250 Trials (Aluminum tank)

1967 Bridgestone 350 GTR

1968 Ducati 450 Scrambler Single

1978 Yamaha 500 single

1978 Teiumph Bonnieville

1983 Yamaha Venture

1986 Yamaha Venture Royale ( sold to +Utahadventure for parts )

1987 Yamaha VR Still have)

1988 Yamaha VR

2008 RSTD (Blue/Black wrecked)

2008 RSV-S (wrecked)

1990 Goldwing TriKing conversion( current)

1968 BSA Royal Star (500 cc twin in restoration))

1971 Montesa Texas Scrambler (175 cc two stroke in restoration)

The AJS was a piece of junk when I bought it,I can't believe now that it lasted a month and like Bubber and his BSA experience I will never have another AJS even tho it was the PO's fault not the AJS.
