KIC Posted February 17, 2012 #1 Posted February 17, 2012 I have an opportunity to go look at/possibly buy a 92 Venture as a parts bike. Just confirming that parts on a 92 would easily work on an 89 ? They are both still a MKII. Any parts that wouldn't work for any reason ?
twigg Posted February 17, 2012 #2 Posted February 17, 2012 I have an opportunity to go look at/possibly buy a 92 Venture as a parts bike. Just confirming that parts on a 92 would easily work on an 89 ? They are both still a MKII. Any parts that wouldn't work for any reason ? As far as I understand, pretty much everything is the same. Even the TCI didn't change until '93. Others will doubtless know of any "detail" changes.
bongobobny Posted February 17, 2012 #3 Posted February 17, 2012 The TCI won't work as the '92 is a single pickup whereas I think the '89 is dual pickup. The front forks are different but are interchangeable...
twigg Posted February 17, 2012 #4 Posted February 17, 2012 Heh ... two responses, two different answers. I thought the TCI didn't change until '93 .... In any event, you could simply swap all the parts and convert yours to the later spec.

twigg Posted February 17, 2012 #6 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) 90-93 are the same. .... I think. This seems to be correct. Part number is the same for 84 to 89. and the same for 90-93 Edited February 17, 2012 by twigg
dingy Posted February 17, 2012 #7 Posted February 17, 2012 As Bongo said the stock TCI's are not interchangeable on 89 & earlier bikes & 90-93 bikes. And to further confuse this, since one of the posters here is getting an Ignitech TCI from me, the Ignitech can be used on an 83-93 bike. The difference with the aftermarket TCI is that the adapter harness is wired differently and a different program is loaded into TCI. The forks are different, including the lower tubes and some of the internal fork parts on 90-93's. Wiring is almost unchanged for all MKII's. With exception of pickup coil & wiring into TCI for 90-93's. Wiring harness will vary between a standard & royale regardless of year. With exception of stator cover, motor is identical. Nothing else comes to mind in the way of differences. Gary
