I'm planning on coming to the Kruis'n the Kootenays in 2012. At the same time I found a time share (22 Jun to 29 Jun) that I can trade into in Kelowna called Holiday Resort Park immediately the week before ending on the 29th of June. My wife has relatives in Kelowna too visit also. This would be perfect for I would leave Kelowna on the 29th an arrive at Nelson that same day. Maybe make a day of it and sight see between Kelowna and Nelson.

My question is has anyone stayed at the Holiday Resort Park in their 1 bedroom condo. Would like your opinion. Maybe some units are nicer than others?

What are some recommended rides and places to see, things to do, and favorite places to eat in the Kelowna area

Second, What would be a nice ride between Kelowna and Nelson being that it is just a short 200 miles between the 2 cities. I wouldn't mind a longer scenic ride.

I dont know the resort, but do know that you will love Kelowna and the area, there are several wineries in the area that you can visit and sample, and lots do do with all the lakes in the area. Kelowna is about 150,000 ppl (I think) so has all the amenities and malls that most cities that size have, and I dont think there are any areas of town that you have to look out for. The golf courses are great, my brothers fav is Predator Ridge (I dont golf, its all 2nd hand). If you dont mind socializing with some FJR folks , i beleive the Yamaha FJR folks are having their INTL meet at Castlegar (not too far from Nelson) the week before KTK so it would be a nice ride. Anydirection you go is good roads and lots to see, but because of the mountain ranges there really is only a couple of ways to get to Nelson from Kelowna, south and North...lol. SilvrT knows the BC interior really well and will probably have more to add.

I will be running that way after KTK to visit family and love the ride through interior of BC through the farmland and mountain passes.

The absolute best route from Kelowna to Nelson is via the Monashee Pass.

You go to Vernon and then head towards Lumby.

From Lumby you carry on to the Needles/Fauquier ferry and then up to Nakusp.

From Nakusp, head south thru the Slocan valley until you meet up with the highway between Castlegar and Nelson... then hang a left and you're about 1/2 hr or so from Nelson.

This will take you a nice full day's ride. If you wanted to break it up a bit, stay overnight at Nakusp. I'd recommend making this a 2-day trip so you can take your time and take in some of the neat things along the way.. like the Gold Panner cafe. The scenery aloong the way is fantastic and the roads are good. You will encounter lots of twisties as well as straight roads, narrow roads, nice wide highways.

Google Monashee Pass for info.

On the Fauquier side of the ferry, you MUST stop at the gas station/hamburger joint (forgot the name) .... amazing burgers. It's the first place on the right after exiting the ferry.

That ride through Monashee is absolutely awesome, the restaurant at Fauquier is called the Mushroom addition, an absolute must stop for lunch. The road from New Denver to Kaslo is a hoot also, much more fun than just riding south to Castelgar. Ron:080402gudl_prv:

I was gonna mention that but we can't let them have all the fun rides before they get to Nelson... LOL
