Best place to stay in Las Vegas

We have been to Vegas numerous times and it is a blast! We have stayed at The Wynn, The Bellagio, Bally's, The Flamingo, Planet Hollywood, Imperial Palace, MGM Grand, our relatives house, etc... And I completely concur with some others on here; The Flamingo is the best overall situation because it is exactly mid strip, and you can get rooms for a reasonable price. But, make sure you request a newly remodeled room. The buffet is good, and the atmosphere is great. We paid $400.00 per night to stay in The Wynn, and while it was SWANKY as all get out, you very quicky realize that you're not spending very much time in your room to justify the cost. The Bellagio is the same way, even though the cost isn't quite as high as The Wynn. The Flamingo is the deal.

Let me say this; If you want to seriously gamble, don't go to Las Vegas to do it. I tell everyone who says "i don't go to Vegas because I'm not a gambler", YOU DON"T GO THERE TO GAMBLE! Heck, I'm not a horticulturalist or a master gardener, but I still like to go to botanical gardens and nature areas and enjoy the amazing sites. The bottom line is, this nation has hundreds of serious gambling sites that folks can go to to "gamble". You go to Vegas to enjoy the awesome gawdyness of what man can make with a ton of money. It's truly awe inspiring at the extent that they will go to draw the masses to their town. It's hilarious!

Go see:

The Bellagio Fountains day and night.

The Bellagio botanical gardens inside their casino.

The exact replica of Venice with the river and gondola rides inside the Venetian. Every hour the ceiling turns from daytime to night time.

The exact replica of the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Venetian.

Go to Paris and walk through the streets.

Go up into the Eiffel Tower.

Go to New York New York and see the Big Apple. While you're there, ride the Long Island express roller coaster.

Go to Ceasars Palace and feel the history. Imagine Evel Kneivel jumping over the fountains before his famous crash.

Walk through the unbeliveable Ceasars Forum Shops.

Go see the Farrari Dealership inside The Wynn. While you're there, check out there bathrooms. Crazy cool. Also, every hour they have laser, flower show on the lake in The Wynn.

Go to Mandalay Bay and see the huge aquarium.

Go downtown to Freemont Street and experience all that is there. Huge light show covering 5 blocks and bands every night.

Step foot into the Golden Nugget.

Go to the Stratosphere and look out at the city from 1000 feet up. Or ride the rides that are on top of that!

Go to Museums, museums, museums. They're everywhere.

Ride the largest farris wheel in the world.

Go to the freakin Hoover Dam for crying outloud. It's 30 minutes away.

Go to Red Rock Canyon State Park. It's 30 minutes away also.

Go to the Rio Resort/Casino and watch the sky show in the casino. People riding around in hot air balloons and other contraptions throwing marti gras beads down to the crowd.

Go to the City Center and marvel at the unfreakin believable architecture.

Goodness Gracious! I cannot keep listing things to do because it would take up this whole thread. There are 10 times as much stuff as i've listed that you go to Vegas to do, and it doesn't even include the shows that you can pay to go see.

But, one thing is for sure. Don't go there to hope to gamble and win. You usually won't. And as far as people getting agitated with the folks on the sidewalks that solicit customers for women of the night, both me and my wifes responses were to ignore them and never give them another thought. It's part of Vegas. You don't go to a national park and gripe about and focus on the mosquitos. You focus on the beauty, and the mosquitos are a minor annoyance. It's the same in Vegas. Focus on the awe inspiring fun stuff, and shuck the other crap that is there.

Vegas is a fun ADULT place to go play and see a lotta things you aren't going to see anywhere else in our nation or the world. I highly recommend doing it at least once in your life. But, do it right. Do your research before you go and find all the things to go see that are free and fun to see. Don't just show up there as a 1 or 2 day stop on your vacation without proir knowledge of what to do.

My 2 cents.

We just got back from Vegas. We stayed at the Holliday Inn Desert Club. it is condos you can rent by the week. It is on Korval st right behind the Flamingo and 1 block from the high roller. We were disappointed with the food and prices. It has been a few years but we felt Vegas has really gone downhill. We shopped at Smiths and got good food at food prices which we prepared in our condo. We did get one good meal at Ellis Island rib bar. I won $500.00 but the rad on my truck went and it cost $495.00 to replace it. Auto Air and More had the rad replaced in less than two hours and gave me rides to and from the condo. On the way down from Vancouver we went on the I 5 which was the usual mess then switched to the 405 which was backed up. Did not get into high gear until we left the Dalles after stopping for lunch at Cousins. The road to Bend Or was nice with little traffic. At Bend we stayed at Shilo inn and had a very nice suite. Do not go across the street to McGraths fish house. The menu looks great and the service is good but the food is inedible. While we were there we saw people at three other tables send their food back. Being Canadian we don't like to complain but when the limit is reached it is reached. The manager was summoned and he got it with both barrels and in stereo. We stopped at Adin California and had lunch at the Adin supply co. It was built in 1909 and looks the same as then. It is the general store, liquor store, sporting goods store, Handicraft store, butcher shop, bakery and delicatessen. It has more stuffed heads on the walls than are in the Senate and with bigger racks than you will see at the Oscars. You can custom order your food and it is really good. We drove through Death Valley on the way back. Zabrinski point is worth a stop. On the way home we found a little road ( I think it was 227 in Or) and I am sure the front end of the truck was into the next corner while the back end was still coming out of the last one. When we got near Seattle on I 5 and 405 I counted 14 motorcycle cops and two unmarked cars all handing out tickets.

I knew it,, I just KNEW it!! That Lenny,, he is my kinda guy!! Bottom line,, no matter where ya go - having fun and seeing beauty is a choice.. Each person has to CHOOSE for themselves whether they are gonna make the situation worse by falling prey to negativism or make it better by looking for and finding those golden nuggets!! Couple years ago,, Tip and I are standing outside a joint in Stove Pipe Death Valley.. People running inside screaming -- its to hot,, its to hot.. I looked at Tippy,, smiled and yelled - at least it aint snowing :cool10::cool10: as I calmly walked over and started talking to a young man dressed in Military clothes who had just gotten home from Afganistan where, in his words,,, "death valley heat was like a warm summer breeze compared to where he had just came from".. :backinmyday:

WELL PUT LENNY!!

Personally,, I cant WAIT to go back to Vegas!! Now I gotta a "Son" out there that I am gonna go see,, me and Tip are gonna rock-a-bye his new baby girl, play ball with his boys, meet his wife, find some aliens on Nellis (you all KNOW they really do have some out there dont cha?) and go riding with Tech Sargent Coffey!! Probably all go out for Ice Cream afterwards too!!!

Guess it depends on what your in to. I have only been there for work. (out at race track) So we have stayed over at Orleans a couple of years. Nice place, but kind of out of the way if you want to jump casino to casino. Same with the South Point, very good accommodations, but off the beaten path. Long ways for us to the track. Then a couple years we stayed at NY NY. Food pricey, not all that great and nothing in medium range. Seemed like everything was $20 or more, even a sandwich. but close to other things MGM and walking distance to most Caesars etc. Last year we stayed at Nugget. I liked it because we had a chose of food options from the hotel restaurants, Denny's down the covered street, Tony Romas. Music at night and things going on. I dont gamble much, heck I ride a motorcycle. Need I gamble anymore?

I like staying at my house. If anyone is ever out in Vegas, hit me up. PM or call, I am always up to ride out for dinner or lunch with fellow venture riders. There is a small list of people on this site that can stay at my house if they need a rent free place to stay.

My first two picks are Cesar's Palace and the Mandalay Bay. Cesar's because of the one-of-a-kind architecture, and Mandalay because it's classy but not too upscale. Bellagio and Venetian are more upscale than I travel. Definitely stay away from Circus Circus and Flamingo.

We were there 2 years ago and again this past July. The first time we stayed at the Venitian, which was awesome! All the rooms are suites, and nicely laid out. The second time we went, we stayed at Caesars Palace. We heard that part of it had been renovated, and part of it needs to be renovated. Guess which section they stuck us in? Yup, the " needs to be renovated" section. We had an awesome time in Vegas both times, but I will not stay at Caesars again, due to the old, run down condition of our room and wing of the hotel. It would be more acceptable if they weren't charging top dollar to stay there. It was a little bit cheaper than staying at the Venitian, but not much.

i know Vegas is not for everyone, but we really enjoyed it. I did not go to gamble, but did play a little. We were more interested in walking the strip, going to shows, checking out Freemont Street, etc. One highlight I had the first time we went was going to "Exotics Racing" where you can experience driving a high end car on a racetrack. It was my nephew's 21st birthday, and he wanted to go. I only went to watch, but while there, I decided to take a " ride along" in a Corvette (my favorite sports car), with a professional driver. It cost $100, and only lasted about 5 minutes, but was the highlight of my trip! It was the best $100 dollars I spent there.
