octoberboy Posted February 14, 2012 #1 Posted February 14, 2012 For this exercise assume two RSV's. RSV A is a 2007 and cost $9,000. RSV B is a 2000 and cost $5,500. Both have similar mileage. Both well maintained. You can afford to buy either. Which would you choose?
CaptainJoe Posted February 14, 2012 #2 Posted February 14, 2012 (edited) Whats the milage on each?... does everything work on each bike? Remember the warranty probably hasnt run out on the 07 yet? or better yet, choose hig4s 07 his is $8500 excellent condition! Edited February 14, 2012 by CaptainJoe
Squidley Posted February 14, 2012 #4 Posted February 14, 2012 The 2000 and take the extra $3500 and dress it up or have extra money for a road trip or lots of fuel to play with....
SilvrT Posted February 14, 2012 #5 Posted February 14, 2012 I'd buy the 2000 and use the 3500 difference for SAFETY CHROME !
Pegasus1300 Posted February 14, 2012 #8 Posted February 14, 2012 I'd take the 07 because I love that Blue/Black combination and besides the 07 still has some warrenty left.
Riderduke Posted February 14, 2012 #9 Posted February 14, 2012 Both well maintained take the 2000. use the extra money for a nice long trip. safety chrome is overated. They are the same bike except the year they were painted and assembled. the warrenty is only good until the month that the bike was purchased, so if the bike was bought in january there isn't any. i'm just saying.
playboy Posted February 14, 2012 #10 Posted February 14, 2012 Well you asked if the 2000 was MM I'd go with it If the 07 was a midnight I would go with it. If they were a MM and a midnight be a tough choice for me .
star4772 Posted February 14, 2012 #11 Posted February 14, 2012 buy both and the best of both world's. My 2 cent's.
XV1100SE Posted February 14, 2012 #12 Posted February 14, 2012 I'd tend to lean towards the 07 because of the warranty but as mentioned how much longer does the warranty go? $3500/# months left. What are the tires like on the 2000? Original? Remember tires should be replaced by age as well as wear. Same with fluids, how much will it cost you to replace all fluids? Are brakes worn more on one than the other (wear depends on rider). What are the differences in chrome and accessories? Consider that the accessories could be more valuable on one bike vs the other. Colour can be another determining factor. If you don't like the colour of one of them that would be a major determining factor too. Good luck with either !
DarkLeftArm Posted February 14, 2012 #14 Posted February 14, 2012 The warranty would be the deal maker/breaker for me. Our '07 is warranted until 2015 because the first owner didn't take possession until 2010.
tz89 Posted February 14, 2012 #15 Posted February 14, 2012 The cleanest, but if the condition is the same...The 2000. In 2 years you can sell it for what you paid. The 2007 not. Austerity is not just for Greeks.
Rick Haywood Posted February 14, 2012 #16 Posted February 14, 2012 If you plan on keeping the bike till it is wore out then take the 2000. Unless of course the 07 wasn't put into service till like 2010 then maybe because of the warranty but then again other than the shock nothing really goes wrong with these bikes:thumbsup2:
Rick Haywood Posted February 14, 2012 #17 Posted February 14, 2012 For this exercise assume two RSV's. RSV A is a 2007 and cost $9,000. RSV B is a 2000 and cost $5,500. Both have similar mileage. TDunc Posted February 14, 2012 #20 Posted February 14, 2012 It is threads like this that prove that these bike are the beast! We are just about split on which bike to get and there is seven years difference. Name a car that this type of discussion would be happening with (and I'm talking about normal cars not collector types) I have two 06's and a 03 came available just up the road from me and I had to think hard. All because of the color.... Paint.!!!! REALLY???? See what I mean. We all ride great bikes in the TDs/Ventures. Yes I really like GW's but I just don't fit on them like these.. My choice of the two would be the one with the least mileage....If a all the rest was equal. The rest is not important to me cause the bikes are what they are.
RandyR Posted February 14, 2012 #21 Posted February 14, 2012 buy the 2000 rsv and then use the money you saved to buy an RSTD backup bike.
Phoneman1981 Posted February 14, 2012 #22 Posted February 14, 2012 Hello: When I purchased my 05 RSTD, the remaining warranty interested me and gave me piece of mind. I had never spent that much money on a motorcycle before. But now after owning a Yamaha and discovering how reliable they are. I think I would lean towards the 2000 model. It will do just as much as the 2007. Save the difference and take a memorable trip!!!!! Not going to go wrong either way. Good luck. Keep us posted.
CaptainJoe Posted February 14, 2012 #23 Posted February 14, 2012 As theres been no responce to our questions I'm thinking this is just a "what if " question...p
buddy Posted February 14, 2012 #24 Posted February 14, 2012 Save your money and get the 2000! use the money on buying a nice motorcycle trailer for your trips.......
KIC Posted February 14, 2012 #25 Posted February 14, 2012 One option is to save even more money, have more fun, have a faster bike, have more class, impress your fellow riders with your knowledge and intellect and buy a nice 1st Gen. You get the best of all worlds and morph into a better, more loving crowd.... Just a thought... But, as they said in the movie.. "A 1st Gen..??? You can't handle a 1st Gen !!" At least that's how I heard it....
