XV1100SE Posted February 13, 2012 #1 Posted February 13, 2012 I started a thread about the number of American's who use food vouchers (over 43million) and the thread has "disappeared". Just wondering if it was due to the subject of the thread itself or comments made. When a thread is deleted... do the moderators send the offender or the OP a message saying why it was removed? I hope it wasn't what I had posted but am curious as to why the thread was deleted. I certainly wasn't trying to start something but was surprised by the number of people/families in the U.S. that depend on food vouchers just to get by.
Cougar Posted February 13, 2012 #2 Posted February 13, 2012 Big Brother is watching your post was just fine, it is what comes after... they will chime in and let you know soon.
XV1100SE Posted February 13, 2012 Author #3 Posted February 13, 2012 Just wanted to draw attention to the number of people that have had to go on food stamps. For those that missed the original article... I'll post it here so people can read it. I ask that no comments be made but for people to simply read the article and keep their thoughts and opinions to themselves. Link Removed by Freebird.
BuddyRich Posted February 13, 2012 #5 Posted February 13, 2012 When a Thread starts to go bad we watch it for a while till it gets outta hand. Then we delete the entire thread. We only send the parties that got out of hand a PM if it got really bad between a couple of people. The OP may not be notified. Generally its the subject that causes a thread to get deleted.
Eck Posted February 13, 2012 #6 Posted February 13, 2012 Don, At 4am this morning I read your post and right off the start I knew with out a doubt that your thread would be heading south real soon. So.. I sent the other Moderators an email stating: Another one to watch....wont be long.. Moderators share a thread so there other opinions involved in making the decision to leave the thread or delete it, watch it and or manage it.. I just now signed back on the site..(11:56am Charlston Sc. time) and I now see where your thread has been deleted by one of the moderators. I didnt delete it, and have no idea which Moderator deleted it at this time. Please keep in mind.. ANY thread that can lead others open to make comment(s) realted to politics will be deleted....period. This thread included, for it again will lead one to post thier feelings / thoughts on how the government should work (or is failing and not working) on the issuance of vouchers for food (in this case).. Often there are times an email is sent to the originating thread starter but this does not happen in all cases, so dont be alarmed if you do not recieve one. Many times it has been posted (and read) that political realted threads are not welcome and will be deleted. DO not feel hurt because your thread has been deleted. We hope you understand and not post anything that will lead down a path of political discussion. I (we) know this was not your intent.
Freebird Posted February 13, 2012 #7 Posted February 13, 2012 I deleted the thread. It had no where to go except blatantly political. I also plan to delete this thread after I give everybody an opportunity to read this response. Political threads are not welcome here. It has been discussed many times and is spelled out in several places. I do not usually bother sending a message to the originator of the thread due to the simple fact that the rules are well known here and I think that those who try to push those rules know full well that they are doing so. I am not going to waste my time explaining it yet again. The rule is, political debate is not allowed here. I did not make that decision. It was voted on long ago by the entire membership here and the vast majority did NOT want to see political discussion here. It always turns ugly and divides the membership. If the opinions of the membership has changed then we can take another look at it. If you want to start a poll and we find that the majority here want to allow it, I will give it another look but until then, it is simply not welcome. I am deleting the links that were posted yet again after they had already been deleted once.
Eck Posted February 13, 2012 #8 Posted February 13, 2012 Heck, all of us are on this one... I just sent an email..
oldgoat Posted February 13, 2012 #9 Posted February 13, 2012 if i crossed the line? i am sorry sincerly oldgoat

Perhaps we should have another poll to see if there is the need for this. I Really like the way the religious section was laid out. If your not religious, don't go there and complain. It seems to be working just fine. Don't know how much work it would be to include a political section, but think it could work. In the wvgazette there are simple rules, don't lie or commit a personal attack, or, "your post only" will be deleted, which is done by clicking on an "abuse" button. The nice thing about this is the USERS are policing the site. I'd like to hope the majority of users here are tolerant and civil, if not ... they will never be heard from...
Freebird Posted February 13, 2012 #11 Posted February 13, 2012 I actually tried an area like that and it lasted for about 3 days. It almost immediately turned into a blood bath of people attacking each other. It got nasty really fast. The prayer area is different in that it is for people who are believers or at least not offended by those who are. It is NOT an area for "DEBATING" religion. That is absolutely not allowed. We still have at least a couple of members here who are offended that the area even exists. I've offered to refund their membership dues in the past because I think it is an important area and am not willing to remove it just because a very few people don't like it. There is no way to create a similar area for politics because there is no way to have an area for politics without debate. Politics truly are a hot button issue for many people. The abuse button is interesting but basically it just allows every member in that area to moderate every other member. That too turns into a fight because then people just start deleting posts that make them mad or that they don't agree with.
playboy Posted February 13, 2012 #12 Posted February 13, 2012 Nothing against Don the OP but I like the way things are run just the way they are. Keep up the good job guys.
Cougar Posted February 13, 2012 #13 Posted February 13, 2012 This always gets worse in the winter months. Mods and admin ,keep doing what your doing.
MasterGuns Posted February 13, 2012 #14 Posted February 13, 2012 If anyone thinks posting political issues brings the bad out, try posting something good about a Harley. I learned fast.
steamer Posted February 13, 2012 #15 Posted February 13, 2012 Gawd winter s*#ks! Am I aloud to say that word here? Lets have a vote to ban winter.
KIC Posted February 13, 2012 #16 Posted February 13, 2012 If anyone thinks posting political issues brings the bad out, try posting something good about a Harley. I learned fast. Are Harley's conservative or liberal ? ...Oh dang..did I type that out loud ...?
darthandy Posted February 13, 2012 #17 Posted February 13, 2012 If anyone thinks posting political issues brings the bad out, try posting something good about a Harley. I learned fast. Actually, I had wanted to post something good about a Harley a while back. I just couldn't think of anything! Andy
CaptainJoe Posted February 13, 2012 #19 Posted February 13, 2012 freebird, The abuse button is interesting but basically it just allows every member in that area to moderate every other member. That too turns into a fight because then people just start deleting posts that make them mad or that they don't agree with. Perhaps the solution would be that a post could automatically be deleted, only if, (more than one?) user viewed it as being abusive? then, the post would specify user name and say "deleted by membership"... Don, no one wants to be a babysitter... I Don't blame you. If we never have a political section it won't matter to me. It's just to bad intolerant people are ruining it for us all... I've found a diveristy of ideas and an open mind are necessary for a good solution. No wonder our politicians can't get anything done...LOL
spyderhead Posted February 13, 2012 #20 Posted February 13, 2012 It is GREAT to see a site with no politics allowed. Personally, I swore off politics/political discussion this past New Year's (resolution). It has been one resolution that has been absolutely easy to keep!
Eck Posted February 13, 2012 #21 Posted February 13, 2012 Actually, I had wanted to post something good about a Harley a while back. I just couldn't think of anything! Well, I wanted to say something nice about a GW, but I couldnt find anything good about them either....and I ride one..(kidding..they are great bikes). Harleys are great bikes too. In fact, at times I do think about getting one.. just not sure if I would want one since I have never owned one, but many of my friends have them. Great looking and sounding bikes if you ask me.
steamer Posted February 13, 2012 #22 Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks Don, your doing a great job. Don't change nuttin.
reddevilmedic Posted February 13, 2012 #23 Posted February 13, 2012 i wish my remote control had an "abuse" button....
XV1100SE Posted February 13, 2012 Author #24 Posted February 13, 2012 My apologies to all members and the moderators if my post appeared to be politically motivated. I didn't it intend to be so. I'm with the majority of members that think the moderators do a great job of policing the site. I had read an article regarding the number of people having to survive on food stamps and that the numbers are growing rapidly. This was not a slight against those on food stamps as there is a need. Hence my starting this one and asking for no responses or comments. The links were to articles that stated statistics regarding food stamp users, the growing number of people/families below the poverty level, and the loss of manufacturing jobs to less paying service industry jobs. I didn't want to start a political discussion or get members upset with each other. Merely to state some facts that I was made aware of that I thought members would find interesting. No slam against Republicans, Democrats, Liberals, Conservatives, et al. Again, my apologies to the moderators and members that considered my intent to start a political battle. Don
Monty Posted February 13, 2012 #25 Posted February 13, 2012 Don't worry about it. I have found that, with this group, I could say the sky is blue, and someone would argue with me, or get pissed off about it. Takes all kinds, I guess.
