Plastic Panels on Top of Head?

What are the black plastic panels on top of each head?

I would like to remove them.

All they are is heat shields. They were in a box when I bought the bike and stayed there for a couple years. When I did the valve cover gaskets I put them on.

 

Now, I can say one thing. They are staying on! The difference in the heat coming back on my upper legs and under the seat was huge. Much cooler in those hot months.

They also help shield the battery from damaging heat radiation as well...

Haven't had mine on for two years since I went to Bikini cut on side panels.

 

Little warmer like Snag said, but not that bad.

My thought, is that the front one also shields the TCI from drowning, when riding in heavy downpours. I have rode in very heavy downpours, in various locations & live on the wet coast.

If your TCI is still in the stock location I would probably keep the front one in as it will help to keep some of that heat off the TCI box....
