GAWildKat Posted February 5, 2012 #1 Posted February 5, 2012 So I thought I'd continue my search into automatic bikes... I've looked at the can-am spyders, ridleys, and the suzuki gs450ga from the 80's I can't really find alot of info on the automatics. Wanting something that is comfy on trips, could be triked and good for around town. It will be sometime before we could invest in it but hey if we know better what to hunt for makes it easier.
painterman67 Posted February 5, 2012 #2 Posted February 5, 2012 honda makes a smaller auto matic...more of a crotch rocket type so not sure how comfy. David
Kirby Posted February 5, 2012 #3 Posted February 5, 2012 How about a Suzuki 650 Burgman? I know it is a scooter, but it'll haul a$$!!!
GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #4 Posted February 6, 2012 I sat on one of those at the dealer in Macon once. Just sitting on it hurt my back. I'm sure the seat could be changed to be somewhat comfy for most people. I'm just not sure it could be for me. I felt like I was sliding forward.
oldgoat Posted February 6, 2012 #5 Posted February 6, 2012 Item number:130640717698check this out on ebay. i bought my daughter one od these when she wanted to be a biker chick and ride with her dad side by side instead of on my bike. then she sold it 5 years latter when she wanted and got a mustang. it was a good bike and she kept up with me on my honda 750 chopper. of course dad did slow down for her LOL
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 6, 2012 #6 Posted February 6, 2012 (edited) If you want something affordable and fully usable as a starter trike, twist and go, (no shifting) they dont get much more affordable than these: http://www.scooterdepot.us/trike-3-wheels-p-1-c-344.html I bought a little 150cc scooter last april and it runs great, no shifting, gets 65 mpg, and is cheap and easy to maintain. No dealer network tho, so keep this in mind. You or hubby will have to do the assembly (uncrate, install mirrors, battery, and oil, check everything) and do pretty much all the maintenance. But I can tell you from experience, the maintenance on these is very easy, since they are designed to be worked on by the owner. If you want a trike to cruise around town and take the occasional trip to the next town, a 300cc trike can do it. Not particularly fast, but fun and easy. Certainly a lot of bang for the buck. The 150cc (and smaller) trikes are mainly for around town and wont be able to attain (or maintain) highway speeds. Edited February 6, 2012 by tx2sturgis
GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #7 Posted February 6, 2012 that looks similar to the suzuki gs450ga I was looking at earlier: http://classic-motorbikes.net/images/gallery/gs450-ga.jpg Understand any bike that isn't triked will probably have to be so Mike doesn't worry everytime I go ride.
GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #8 Posted February 6, 2012 ooooooo I like this one lolhttp://www.scooterdepot.us/250cc-trike-chopper-style-3-wheels-road-warrior-gas-motor.html Think I could make it to International on that? lol
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 6, 2012 #9 Posted February 6, 2012 That one is listed as a manual, and appears to have a foot shiftlever and hand clutch lever on the left side. The scooter-based units will be twist and go, its a type of CVT unit that drives very similar to an automatic.

And a smallish gas tank too: 2.4 gallons. Which means it will have a range that is around 100 miles or so. Keep looking!
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 6, 2012 #12 Posted February 6, 2012 http://www.metropolitanscooters.net/servlet/the-186/Magnum-300cc-Luxury-Trike/Detail This one should be able to keep up with most of your riding companions.
GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #13 Posted February 6, 2012 yeah, said 55+ depending on rider weight lol. My FIL wanted me on an MP3, but those are pricey.

GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #15 Posted February 6, 2012 What about the Piaggio MP3? My FIL used to ride the old vespas (same company) and thought the MP3 was tough enough to take my abuses lolhttp://www.piaggiousa.com/scooters.html#!s=overview/mp3-500
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 6, 2012 #16 Posted February 6, 2012 The MP3 scooters by Piaggio are well engineered articulating scooters, but they knock a large chunk out of a $10,000 bill. They arent really trikes, but that is a definition I wont argue over, if someone disagrees, thats fine. Again, no real dealer network exists in fly-over country.
GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #17 Posted February 6, 2012 I don't disagree on the mp3 not being a trike, but it's a very good, durable scooter. My FIL decided even before we said I was getting my own, that I should get it because the MP3 is a very stable scooter for someone like me with balance issues.
Kirby Posted February 6, 2012 #18 Posted February 6, 2012 I think you might can test ride a Piaggio in Macon at Capitolcycle. They had one follow me around the first time I rode a RSV.
GAWildKat Posted February 6, 2012 Author #19 Posted February 6, 2012 As many times as I go to that place and I've never seen one, though the inventory shows they have a 2010 model mp3
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 6, 2012 #20 Posted February 6, 2012 I don't disagree on the mp3 not being a trike, but it's a very good, durable scooter. My FIL decided even before we said I was getting my own, that I should get it because the MP3 is a very stable scooter for someone like me with balance issues. I assume you know that the MP3 is an articulating scooter, meaning it does not stand un-aided like a trike. (not counting park mode) It leans in the curves, just like a two wheel bike. You can fall over riding one of these. And they are not really much better at managing slick surfaces than a 2 wheel scooter. If you have 'balance issues' you probably need the stability of a true trike, where the rider is not in direct control of the lean angles. By the way...what is a 'FIL'?
flb_78 Posted February 6, 2012 #21 Posted February 6, 2012 You have to put your feet down at a stop light/sign on a MP3.
flb_78 Posted February 6, 2012 #22 Posted February 6, 2012 By the way...what is a 'FIL'? [/b] Dad in law
oldgoat Posted February 6, 2012 #23 Posted February 6, 2012 FIL= future in-law but for me it could be female i like:rotf:
