Sideoftheroad Posted February 4, 2012 #1 Posted February 4, 2012 Want to connect my laptop that has a VGA, USB, hdmi, and maybe a FireWire ports. My tv is older in that is has s-video and RCA jacks. I can't seem to be able to find a cable anywhere. Suggestions?
etcswjoe Posted February 4, 2012 #2 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) Radio Shack has a VGA to composite video adapter for 80 bucks put you can find them much cheaper online. Since your TV has a s-video plug you can buy a VGA-to s-video cable real cheap. Look at New Egg and Tiger Direct. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882339047 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5265734&CatId=467 or you can buy a high density D-15 connector and a s-video connector and build your own only takes about 15 mins to build. Sideoftheroad Posted February 5, 2012 Author #3 Posted February 5, 2012 The one from newegg would be what I am looking for. I would have to buy another s-video cable because 5" is way too short (keep it clean folks lol)

dacheedah Posted February 5, 2012 #5 Posted February 5, 2012 you can find these in a lot of places, I would suggest flea bay since most people are moving to hdmi cables. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3557004&CatId=1430
flb_78 Posted February 5, 2012 #6 Posted February 5, 2012 You can find about any cable you want on ebay and for pennies compared to any retail store. Here's a VGA to S-video and RCA for under $7 shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VGA-S-Video-3-RCA-Composite-AV-TV-Out-Converter-Adapter-Cable-PC-Laptop-/310353922484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item48428909b4
Ozlander Posted February 5, 2012 #7 Posted February 5, 2012 Try http://www.monoprice.com/ They have all kinds of adapter cables and a very good price.
rod Posted February 5, 2012 #8 Posted February 5, 2012 Try Deep surplus online. http://deepsurplus.com/ Good luck Rod
aharbi Posted February 5, 2012 #9 Posted February 5, 2012 The only place to buy cables and the best prices. http://www.mycablemart.com/ Belkin cables are a rip. No reason to pay what they charge for a cable. It's all "tinsel and sham" has nothing to do with conductivity, signal loss etc.
Freebird Posted February 5, 2012 #10 Posted February 5, 2012 Belkin are a rip? I've always found them to be fairly reasonably priced. Now Monster Cable...THOSE are a rip. I agree with monoprice.com I've bought from them and got great prices, fast delivery and great quality.
Sideoftheroad Posted February 5, 2012 Author #11 Posted February 5, 2012 I will check out the other sites too but I did just find this. What do you think? http://stores.nextag.com/store/4857524/product/950019112/USB-Male-A-to I have liked Belkin for a long time. I haven't had a need for a cable for a long time either. Gotta agree with Don's comment about Monster. I don't know about their quality anymore but way overpriced.
Sideoftheroad Posted February 5, 2012 Author #12 Posted February 5, 2012 Also pulled out the tv to be sure. I was wrong about having s-video. I only have RCA jacks. :-(
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 5, 2012 #13 Posted February 5, 2012 Depending on what you want to do, you can google 'usb video adapter' and find all kinds of ways to attach a second monitor. You can extend the desktop, mirror the display, capture video from the computer to an external recorder, or record external analog or digital video onto the computer, and sometimes do many of the above simultaneously. It depends on the hardware you buy and the software that comes with it. All kinds of possibilities for under $100, and many are under $50.
Sideoftheroad Posted February 5, 2012 Author #14 Posted February 5, 2012 tx I just need a straight audio/video feed from my laptop to my tv. I am getting into the r/c world so someone let me borrow their sim software to practice with until I get an airplane. I would much rather see it in a tv vs a laptop. Also the kiddos could watch it too easier.
Charlie01 Posted February 6, 2012 #15 Posted February 6, 2012 Sewell makes a PC to TV converter Part No. SW-22050 to convert your vga output to rca. I bought it about 6 months ago so it should be a current product. I use it to connect my onld CRT TV to a PC dedicated as a home entertainment PC. You'll have to play around with the unit to get the best picure. The instructions are poor. Yes, I know it seems pointless with an old TV but I can stream movies, record local tv, and access internet radio stations all in on unit. The unit cost $32.49. You could also go with a video card of various flavors.
