friesman Posted January 31, 2012 #1 Posted January 31, 2012 The local CTV tv station has a fishing show that covers some different types of winter ice fishing in the area around Regina SK. My favourite episode is the best bait for Pike, it was shot about 30 minutes north of town about a week ago. http://regina.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20101209/sask-reg-reel-101209/20120110/?hub=Regina
RandyR Posted January 31, 2012 #2 Posted January 31, 2012 hmm. I wouldn't be sticking my fingers anywhere near a Northern's teeth like that.
friesman Posted January 31, 2012 Author #3 Posted January 31, 2012 hmm. I wouldn't be sticking my fingers anywhere near a Northern's teeth like that. Been there done that, its just like someone using a really coarse wood rasp on your arm.... ya bleed like crazy from about a hundred little slices in your skin.... SOme of those Northerns are just plain nasty, but, they are a bit tamer in the cool water. brian
eagleeye Posted January 31, 2012 #4 Posted January 31, 2012 Good videos, I ice fish at least 3 days a week once there is ice. In fact me and a few friends are heading over to the Mississippi river to go ice fishing at the crack of dawn tomorrow am on some backwaters. Normally, I just fish around here. I wait all summer for this. Steve
friesman Posted January 31, 2012 Author #5 Posted January 31, 2012 Most years there is like a town on the ice where this Pike video was shot, but this year with the warm winter the ice isnt very thick, so there hasnt been a big amount of semi permanent shelters out on the ice. SOme years by now there is almost 3 feet of ice where those guys were standing, but this year i think there was barely a foot and there has been many cases of trucks and quads breaking thru and sinking (and unfortunatly a couple of deaths too). I love ice fishing also, and with this years weather being so nice you can get by with just a light spring jacket most of the time. It looks like we have plenty of snow in the vid but it had just snowed the night before and now most of it has melted. With about 5 or 6 lakes within a 45 minute drive from Regina its a good way to get some fresh air and have some fun. Brian
