i've did some searching of old threads and seems that most say the odyssey is a great battery. i was just wondering why there seems to be more batteryies with a higher cca raiting than the odyessey but seems the majority likes the odyessey?

There was a time when, as you say, the Odyssey got the best reviews. I had one and it was a good battery and lasted about 5 years. The preferred battery now seems to be the Deka though. Higher cranking amps, great reviews and cheaper.

Just my opinion...... I think it is mainly because the Odessy was around and catching on for a whle before the other options like the DEKA AGM were getting much attention. People started using them, and liking them before other brands were being offered on a broad scale. Wasn't Odessy one of the front runners in the early days of the AGM market?

I'm not going to knock the Odessy. It is a good battery. Smaller and stronger than the stock L/A OEM offerings if not somewhat more expensive. I was looking into them when I ran across the DEKA line.

The CCA load tests that Joshua at Bohannon Battery did and posted the results here is what sold me on the DEKA line. If not for that I would have probably ended up with an Odessy in my '84.

But put the CCA's and the prices on the table together and the choice was a no brainer. Still loving my DEKA going into my four year and still cranking like new.

What about the maint free AGM Yuasa YTX24HL-BS with 350 cca Battery ? It will replace the original Yuasa SY50-N18L-A2 , 260 cca battery's in the 1st gens and it seems to price out around the $100 mark depending on where you look. My currant battery, is the cheaper Yuasa SY50-N18L-A2, has been in the bike since 2007 and still going strong. So I actually cannot say anything bad about the Yuasa Battery,s

Speaking of batteries... I've used a few Westco batteries in various bikes, Wing, VTX, Royal Star, now Venture. I usually replace a battery every three years and keep the old one for spare. Good thing I still had my Yuasa oem that I replaced with the Westco 13 months ago. The Westco died suddenly one day last week. Charger showed green about an hour after putting it on, but the battery was still dead.

The old Yuasa, OTOH, after sitting under my workbench for 13 months under zero charge and covered with NM dust, came up to snuff in less than an hour, and still has plenty of spunk to run the bike. I've got another Yuasa on the way.

I had a Yuasa die the same way in a new Goldwing, so any battery can break internally. This is the first time I've had any trouble at all with a Westco.
