Just thought of something. Before you go, upgrade your clutch springs to either a VMax spring (available from Skydoc17) or to a Barnett setup. The hack is going to be tough on your clutch and the spring is a known weak point.

To change the spring is really easy, although the access is on the same side as the hack. Normally, you can do the change on the sidestand without even draining the oil. In the case of a sidecar, you will need to drain the oil first.

Why not drive the hack up on a block just saying :lightbulb:

Get it ready and go !!!!!

The wife and I rode our 99 to Cody last summer 2-up pulling a trailer

with enough stuff for my wife to survive a month with no problems.

I did the clutch upgrade at Freebirds M/D and if not none already I would

do the ignition relay upgrade. M/D is a great place to get assistance and the smaller stuff can be done on site with no labor charges, lots of people willing to help fellow riders.

I rode 8100 miles last summer on my '05 Venture w/Champion Escort sidecar and pulling a Scooter Schooner tent trailer. About 6500 miles into the trip I noticed I could see through the bottom of my rear tire. Oops. I limped from Jackson, WY to Idaho Falls, ID for a tire. I figure I was pulling about 1500 - 1700 pounds on this trip. I had no problems with engine power (or electrical output) until I got bad gas in Durango, CO (the gas station across from the Conoco) and then I went up a 10,600 hill followed by an 11,100 foot hill. I crawled the last 2+ miles up the first hill in first gear babying my clutch. Good bye clutch. I did manage to get the last 1500 miles back to the ferry to Alaska. My advice, the bike will pull what you need it to, watch your rear tire for wear, carry some good gas.

Just don't run over something that can bounce up into the radiator. I was headed to Duluth with a friend who was riding an Electra Glide with about 125000 miloes on it. I had about 70000 on my Venture at that time. I was worried about him having problems. He didn't have any but I ran over a flattened soda bottle in a parking lot and it flipped up into my radiator and knocked a hole in 2 tubes. That was about half way through Iowa. Got some JB weld for under water use and patched it. I was pretty nervous about heading even farther from home but I loaded up on antifreeze and went. When I got home I put a new radiator and a guard on.

AutoZone carries one :lightbulb:for about $26 including tax. Has a light, good gage, plus the 'push-down' type of lock on the valve stem; a MUST for tat Venture style wheel. Weighs less than 2 lbs, ans sice is about 10x12 inches. That way you don't have to hunt for air with that kind of 'L' mount.

and your good on 86 will make the trip just fine. :cool10:Wishing you safety, and rubber down!

I have a 99 RSV with 37000 on it and would not hesitate to go anywhere. Just remember things can happen on such a long trip. As you have heard from many members, it makes it easier to handle if you are prepared. water waterand more water, new brakes and tires, and coolant. You cant go wrong listening to this group. My friends think I think of everything on our trips. If they only knew I get it all from Venturerider.org...

Backrest, if you don't have one get a backrest. Space bags for packin your side bags, a chamois swim towel. The HD's will need to stop for gas more than you do . . .
