talonsx2 Posted January 25, 2012 #1 Posted January 25, 2012 put the bike back together after 2nd gear rebuild and am at the point where I should be able to check operation except something aint right.... So here is the question= put the shifter in what is supposed to be 1st gear and the indicator states 5TH gear???? What the heck is up with that? thanks in advance, mike
bkuhr Posted January 26, 2012 #2 Posted January 26, 2012 find neutral to confirm (1 up from 1st)or(1 down from 5th) I would suspect shift lever on wrong, very easy to do- pics here somewhere.
talonsx2 Posted January 26, 2012 Author #3 Posted January 26, 2012 I do have the shift lever all the way down and it is stating 5th one up from there it does hit neutral...shift lever is upside down?? is this what i am understanding you to say??? thanks mike
bkuhr Posted January 26, 2012 #4 Posted January 26, 2012 here ya go http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65782&highlight=shifter check second pic in post #5 I would suspect the short lever on the shaft is "up" rather than "down" Been there - done that
talonsx2 Posted January 26, 2012 Author #5 Posted January 26, 2012 thank you that was the ticket.. Now if i can get the fuel pump to prime i may have a winner.. thanks again mike.
Venturous Randy Posted January 26, 2012 #6 Posted January 26, 2012 The shaft that comes through the case will have a mark on the end of it. That mark should line up to be in the slot where the clamp bolt is on the outside. RandyA
Yammer Dan Posted January 26, 2012 #7 Posted January 26, 2012 Open drains on carbs and turn key on and off a few times. Listen for clicks.
talonsx2 Posted January 27, 2012 Author #8 Posted January 27, 2012 it is pretty much a guarantee that the bike will not start if the fuel petcock is closed... thanks for the help, now if i can just remember what piece of plastic goes on first:confused24:
