utadventure Posted January 16, 2012 #1 Posted January 16, 2012 I know for the most part snow is an unwelcome sight and dreaded. But....It's the 16th of January and we could still see our lawn, not spots or parts but the entire lawn, flower beds etc... For those of us who live in the desert areas, snow is a necessity in order to have water during the rest of the year, so, today the snow came. I had to put the bikes in their winter spots in the garage so I could fit both cars in the garage and I actually used the snow blower (I started it in Nov. to make sure it was running and ready) But for a short time, I welcome the snow to the Intermountain region and look forward to the spring. Dave
Yammer Dan Posted January 16, 2012 #2 Posted January 16, 2012 Glad you got it. Out there. We don't depend on it here and could do without it. Have had enough rain to keep things going. PLEASE keep it out there in the mountains!

Dave Up until Friday night, we hadn't seen any snow yet this winter. Woke up Saturday morning and that non-four-letter word "snow" turned into a BIG-FOUR-LETTER word!!! 5 inches of it and still counting. Had to drive to the airport (appx an hour) in a mess. Seems when we get snow around here, the highway maintenance crews are rarely prepared. Lucky for me I've spent most of my life in snow country but many around here are clueless ... as was evidenced by all the vehicles in the ditch enroute. Folks in the Vancouver area are just not accustomed to snow. We seem to get it "all at once" ... lasts for about a week, and then it's gone for another year.

Flyinfool Posted January 16, 2012 #5 Posted January 16, 2012 Leo I'll be sure and send some weather your way.......... I don't mind SNOW, I actually like driving in SNOW. It is the single digit and minus temps that I really have no use for. My poor truck needs new shoes and a new battery. I was trying to squeeze out one more winter. If I can squeeze thru winter then summer is a breeze.
leo3wheel Posted January 16, 2012 #6 Posted January 16, 2012 Jeff, Sorry you are having a tough winter. My sister-in-law says it was like -15* in northern NH today. We rarely see minus temperatures in recent years. Last winter, we had a lot of snow, then hurricane Irene last summer and then a bad ice storm in October. After that, we got a break. We need this mild winter to recover from all the recent disasters. I feel we will get 3 feet of snow at the end of March to impact our Florida Keys ride. Please, let's hope not.
Flyinfool Posted January 16, 2012 #7 Posted January 16, 2012 No, we are having the mildest winter that I can remember. We have had a total of 7.5 inches of snow from the last 10 "storms" combined, and 6 inches of that was all from one day. By this time of year we should be sneaking up on 2 feet of snow for the season. We just missed setting the record for the latest 1 inch snow fall. We are also averaging more than 10°F above normal for the winter. I like winter except for when we get real cold. Tonight we are supposed to get down to 3°F. In my book that is COLD and I do not like it that cold. I'll keep the snow but I am gonna send you the cold part.......

bongobobny Posted January 16, 2012 #12 Posted January 16, 2012 Yah! Friday it was like somebody switched "Winter Mode" on. Went from no snow and near 50 to a foot or so of snow and single digit temps...
Carbon_One Posted January 16, 2012 #13 Posted January 16, 2012 So far a really mild winter here in my S.E. Michigan area. We've had above normal temps and only 1 measureable snow fall of about 1" or just enough to cover the grass. And that's all gone as of today. Larry
BIG TOM Posted January 16, 2012 #14 Posted January 16, 2012 Yah! Friday it was like somebody switched "Winter Mode" on. Went from no snow and near 50 to a foot or so of snow and single digit temps... I won't say it...........................yes, I will "I HATE SNOW" :bang head:

KIC Posted January 17, 2012 #22 Posted January 17, 2012 OH ..NO... NOW YOU GOT ME WORRIED....GOTTA CHECK THE FORECAST... Nope....still safe.... no problems here...... :happy65:Big Tom..how you doing back there...????
Condor Posted January 17, 2012 #23 Posted January 17, 2012 We're snow challenged arouind here as well. Woke up this AM to 24deg, and rain is on the way for Thursday and Friday. Maybe?? Actually my front lawn can stay bare and brown, it's the Sierras that need the snow pack. Otherwise the lawn will stay unchanged thru next summer. I hate water rationing....
Sailor Posted January 17, 2012 #24 Posted January 17, 2012 We got about 1 inch yesterday but it is gone now. Forecast is for more tomorrow. I don't mind the snow as much as I mind the idiots out driving in it with their summer tires. We live near the bottom of a steep hill and when there is snow all the idiots go out and pile up at the bottom of the hill. 14 in one hour one winter. I have never had any problems. 4X4 with winter tires, just in case. I was talking to our niece in Calgary yesterday, she was talking -30.
