GolfVenture Posted January 15, 2012 #1 Posted January 15, 2012 Decided to give both my seafoamed VRs a mid winter start. Both started up just fine. Going to let them run for about 15 minutes.
Flyinfool Posted January 15, 2012 #2 Posted January 15, 2012 Keep the RPMs up around 2K and let them run till at least the cooling fan comes on. Short starts in the winter are bad for the transmission, the short run will cause condensation of water inside of the engine and it is not getting hot enough to boil it off. Short runs are like adding water to your oil. Just sitting there idling does not circulate the oil in the trans good. If you are going to run it in the winter it is best to actually take it out for a good ride to heat everything up good.
GolfVenture Posted January 15, 2012 Author #3 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks, I'll run till the cooling fan kicks in. I'll also take them out for a ride the next time weather is good so any moisture does not sit very long. Glad I posted.
XV1100SE Posted January 15, 2012 #4 Posted January 15, 2012 Must be nice.... 9 degrees F here last night and 18F now.
LilBeaver Posted January 16, 2012 #5 Posted January 16, 2012 I do the same with mine. Although it does started and ridden just about every day In fact, I managed about 200 miles yesterday with friend of mine... I hope that was long enough to take care of any condensation related issues.
