ragtop69gs Posted January 12, 2012 #1 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) I borrowed a FLIR i7 Infrared camera and did some scans of the bike. Interesting, as I found that my left rear cylinder is not firing. These pics were taken in this sequence, Cold, 1 minute, 5 minutes in this order. FR, RR, LF, LR. Each pic is time stamped, the date is wrong. The left rear is dead. Readings at the spark plug also confirm this. Also notice the lower temp at the exhaust pipe on the left. pic 247, 249, 267, 276 are all of the left rear. Now to figure out WHY this cylinder is not firing. I'll post all the pics and maybe it will help someone who knows how to read an IR pic. Edited January 12, 2012 by ragtop69gs
Guest Posted January 12, 2012 #2 Posted January 12, 2012 Could be a bad coil or maybe a bad plug. These bikes are known for developing bad coils. If I remember correctly, Goose posted something about the insulator inside the plug getting corroded. Im sure he will respond.
Cougar Posted January 12, 2012 #3 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) :sign yeah that:been there done that..... the famous rear coils, Goose will tell you that it is your cap/wire , I myself just changed the coils out. but did that before Goose figured it out. So your # 1 is out and then the # 3 will be later. Also, you did make sure your plug was not fouled correct? Edited January 12, 2012 by Cougar
gibvel Posted January 12, 2012 #4 Posted January 12, 2012 WARNING: If you do decide to take your plug caps apart DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use anything abrasive on the end of the small white ceramic resistor in the cap.
