Guest Ken8143 Posted December 29, 2007 #1 Posted December 29, 2007 Not to slam medical professions, please understand this. A buddy of mine got seriously wrong medication from the pharmacy. I think he will be ok but it is a problem. Bottom line, folks - know what is going in your mouth or butt or where ever when you get meds from pharmacy or doctor or in hospital. Know what your meds look like, and ask the question if something doesn't seem right, in color, size, shape or anything else. It could be a generic drug and different manufacturers products will look different. It could be a change in dose that you are not aware of - but it could be an error. ASK QUESTIONS! My wilfe and I have had way too much experience in hosptials etc. And we caught more than one mistake. You have to know what you are getting. Ask. Especially ask if it is not familiar to you. You know what it is supposed to look like and don't be afraid to ASK! Got to take care of your self. Don't depend on someone else to do that for you.
mini-muffin Posted December 29, 2007 #2 Posted December 29, 2007 Part of the problem with some pharmacies is they aren't always fillling the prescriptions by pharmacist some have folks who know nothing about the stuff and just count pills. Hope your friend is ok. Can be scary but hard to knowwhether the meds are right for most of us. Margaret
BOO Posted December 29, 2007 #3 Posted December 29, 2007 I have been on Meds (Eck leave this alone) for quite some time and I get real excitable when the color changes or the labeling on the pill changes. I take one of these and two of those a day but I have been known to take two of these and one of those. My Doctor thinks it's funny. I always check the number in the bottle which is quite interesting also. I'm suppose to get 60 pills and it has varied from 56 to 68 through the years, don't they have to account for the pills? Hope your friend is okay. Jerry

No argument - they made it right although they could have said I doubled up which I didn't.
cowpuc Posted December 30, 2007 #5 Posted December 30, 2007 Since I broke my back in 03 I have been on a variety of stuff at a variety of dosages.. Ken is correct!! Pay very special attention to your pills and know them well and ask lots of questions when something changes.. I have had both dosages and actual pill swaps many times and deal only with a name brand pharmacy (Walgreens).. The worst one was a mistake in my Pain Patch - gave me 100 MG per hour or opium based perscript instead of 50 - this stuff is deadly!! Gotta watch your OWN backside just like Ken mentioned - NO ONE else really cares about you like you do,, hmmmmmmmmmmm,, kinda like riding a bike aint it.... 'Puc

Sailor Posted December 30, 2007 #9 Posted December 30, 2007 A friend of mine was hospitalized for a month. He just got out. For a month nobody could figure out what was wrong with him and it got pretty serious. It turned out that his Dr. had given him two prescriptions which balanced him out. The pharmacist only filled one which caused problems. I just renewed my prescription with a new Dr. The pharmacist pointed out that the strength had been cut in half. I checked it out and found the Dr. had made a mistake.
