DragonRider Posted January 9, 2012 #1 Posted January 9, 2012 I was hoping more members would have read this article if I posted it someplace else besides the watering hole, but out of all the members we have only 112 have done so,which I find disheartening. I may catch some flak from the moderators and the boss, but I feel very strongly about this as those who know me personally know. 12 year old girl looses battle to cancer...........
playboy Posted January 9, 2012 #2 Posted January 9, 2012 Don't lose hope on us it was in the local paper here as well.
Yammer Dan Posted January 9, 2012 #3 Posted January 9, 2012 I think there are a lot of us that feel as you do on this Lew. But words just don't seem to do it. Very few of our lives that cancer hasn't touched. Ugly Ugly disease. Someday I think we will beat it. Someday.
kbran Posted January 10, 2012 #4 Posted January 10, 2012 Hey Lew, I didn't post but sure read it, saw it on facebook as well. I know exactly how you feel and I feel the same way. Brakes my hear what these little ones go thru and can't believe how brave they can be. Just saw a special on St. Judes the other day about a rare brain cancer they have been working on and have to admit watching the bravery even facing death bought a tear to the eye's. Thanks for all you do and I for one don't get tired of these post.
Carbon_One Posted January 10, 2012 #5 Posted January 10, 2012 Don't feel bad Lew. Besides reading your post here I've seen the same article both on tv and here on the internet news so I'm sure a LOT of folks may have read it before seeing your post. Just the same thanks to you for bringing it to our attenion here as someone may not of seen it otherwise. Larry
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted January 10, 2012 #6 Posted January 10, 2012 Yes it is very sad to lose someone so young to cancer. I lost my oldest sister to the terrible disease. She was more of a mother to me than a sister. We all hurt every day for that loss. But as with many of us, I am sure, reading stories like this can make us hurt even more than we do already. Is that bad? I am still not sure. What I do live with every day, as well, is my other sister that is a brain injury survivor. She was the passenger in her daughters' car that was struck from behind after sliding off the road. I do everything I can to help with that cause, to help my living sister now while she is still with us. That is the fight I fight... more important than the fight you fight.... No..... but we all have our fights. We all have the loved ones that we will do anything we can for, whether they are still with us or not. Don't ever stop your fight.... keep posting your stories keep fighting your fight. I will stand on everysoap box I can find to speak my words to help those living with and caring for brain injury survivors. I was blessed with a son that felt so strongly about helping brain injury survivors and caregivers he got on his bicycle and peddled it from one side of Canada to the other. He stopped and found a soapbox anyplace he could find a person to listen. Did it help? He brought home a few dollars.... but he met wonderful people right up to government officials that wanted to help too. We all need to keep fighting for what we fight for.... we fight for those that cannot fight for themselves ...... Keep up your good work.
DragonRider Posted January 10, 2012 Author #7 Posted January 10, 2012 I am so sorry to hear of your loss and of your sisters injuries. I will keep you and her in our prayers. Yes we all have our battles and no one is more important than any other, the main thing is to keep fighting for whats good for your cause. Yes it is very sad to lose someone so young to cancer. twigg Posted January 10, 2012 #8 Posted January 10, 2012 Just a few minutes ago, in another place, I placed an article on the Front Page of a major political Blog. It's part of a job I do when I am not here. It was written by a woman watching her father lose the battle to Alzheimers. Those stories get to me, every time.
Hummingbird Posted January 10, 2012 #9 Posted January 10, 2012 I read your post, I didn't respond for several reasons - My wife has had cancer twice - breast and ovarian Our 38 year old son died with cancer our 40 year old daughter in law died with cancer my father died with cancer
etcswjoe Posted January 10, 2012 #10 Posted January 10, 2012 I have lost too many family and friends to cancer to mention and what do you really say? Nothing I can say will ever be enough so I read it say a prayer and go on.
DragonRider Posted January 10, 2012 Author #11 Posted January 10, 2012 I know your heart aches for those that you have lost, and to have lost so many of your loved ones to this insidious disease is too much for anyone to bear, my intention was not to shame anyone or bring back any bad memories, but to bring to the forefront how much help we and everyone else also who supports St. Jude, The Cancer Society, The Susan Kohman Foundation and all the other entities that are helping in finding a cure for cancer. I have lost both my parents, my wife lost her biological mother and her stepmother, & her brother in law to cancer and several other of her family members and several of our friends are currently fighting that battle. I lost 2 of my oldest friends from high school, I just want to do all I can to help find a cure to this disease in my lifetime so others don't have to suffer this disease, and to help the kids that are afflicted lead a normal life that is not possible when they have Cancer. Dick, I apologize if this post made you uncomfortable, that was not my intention. Our prayers go out for you for your losses. Hummingbird Posted January 10, 2012 #12 Posted January 10, 2012 Dragonrider - my apologies, I didn't mean to be so harsh, I can't stand to watch the St. Jude ads on tv, they're just too sad. My heart goes out to anybody that has lost a close friend, relative or family member to cancer. I do consider myself lucky that Linda beat it twice, however the other losses will remain a needle in my heart forever.
DragonRider Posted January 11, 2012 Author #13 Posted January 11, 2012 I did not take it that way, I just hated that I brought back those bad memories.
