Flyinfool Posted January 7, 2012 #26 Posted January 7, 2012 Sailer, Flyingfool-----I thought that you were older than time:confused24: Steve I am, I can still remember when the dead sea was still healthy. But still not old enough to retire. I figure I have another 50 or so years to work before I can retire.
Shorty Posted January 7, 2012 #27 Posted January 7, 2012 Way to go Steve. I was wondering the other day when you would be retiring. I've been retired for 7 1/2 years..... AND LOVING IT. I'm still helping my son out by torching the centers out of semi wheels so he can crush them to get the tire off....... done around 600 of them so far. Centers weigh around 35 pounds (600X35=10 1/2 tons) and the rest of the wheel 51 pounds, and the tire weighs around 125 pounds. He's gettting $240.00 a ton for the steel.... glad I can help him. I'm in better shape now than when I was working.
ablumny Posted January 7, 2012 #28 Posted January 7, 2012 I've got to bookmark this post for inspiration. At 46, with 1 in college, 2 more going soon, someday when I'm in my 80's I can retire
Michael_Bishop Posted January 7, 2012 #29 Posted January 7, 2012 I retired about 4 years ago. I love being able to have long mornings and not rushing around. I just finsh my garage off heat and all. Had a contracter friend that go me a 15 cabinets to hang up in it. You will enjoy retirement eagleeye.Congratulations !
frankd Posted January 7, 2012 #30 Posted January 7, 2012 On January 3rd. I also retired. I managed the Electrical department for a small steel plant and about 4 years ago we were bought out by a big company from Brazil. All of the foreign BS they keep pushing on us got to me, and I sang that Johhny Paycheck song to them (Take this job and shove it). I've been working full time for 46 years and I finally had my fill. I'm sure the Venture will get a lot more use now, as will my fishing gear and ham radio gear. Of course, I've got a lot of things I want to get done, so no sitting around for me. It sure does feel good not to get those 3 AM phone calls with the stupid questions and also not to have all those 'great' meetings that took up so much time. Frank D.
eagleeye Posted January 7, 2012 Author #31 Posted January 7, 2012 Congratulations Frank! and thanks again for the well wishes. Now you can go fishing when you want. You got me beat by one year, worked for 45 yrs. But can relate to not dealing with stupid questions and MEETINGS. My favorite Dilbert joke is his boss asking him what he did for the last year when he didn't get that project done--He replied: I remember going to meetings. I don't know if I said this, but my goal is to not know what day it is. Steve
CaptainJoe Posted January 7, 2012 #33 Posted January 7, 2012 black owl "Sheez... Maybe we needs us a special place here on the site for all us retired folk so we don't make the working class members too upset..... :rotfl:" Yup...my thoughts exACTLY:bang head:
frankd Posted January 8, 2012 #34 Posted January 8, 2012 Steve, I did miss Thursday this week. I mean I thought it was Thursday and actually it was Friday==I guess that means I've already accomplished not knowing what day it was. Actually I've been finished working since Dec 19th. I had some vacation and flexible holidays so on the 3rd I just went in to clean out my desk and say goodbye. Frank D.
Trader Posted January 8, 2012 #35 Posted January 8, 2012 I "retired from a steel mill in Hamilton April '05 at 52 years old. Stayed on the payroll until late September. I played with a business for 5 years...but then that was enough of that and at 57 gave that up too. That's when the VR came into my life! I just turned 59 and have no idea how I ever found time to go to work!
