reddevilmedic Posted December 23, 2011 #1 Posted December 23, 2011 i will try to keep up with some pics of this install. here are some with the new stator installed and wired. i eliminated the small harness alltogether. it was fried anyhow. pretty simple, pos to pos, neg to neg, yellow to white. same with rectifier. only problem ive had so far, is i ruined the case cover gasket last night. ordered a new one ( thanks again earl). i should have pre-fit the cover first. didnt go on as easy as it came off. also, the shift rod likes to go upside down and messes up alignment. make suke you are aware of its original position. the new stator has an extra set of windings. guess thats what makes it better? parts of old pics too. as i wired it, i cut off the old wires for reference. helped out. didnt want to mix anything up.
dingy Posted December 23, 2011 #2 Posted December 23, 2011 Also check & clean the connector coming from the pickup coils inside the stator. This connector can cause plug firing problems. 6 position connector with 5 wires in it. Gary
reddevilmedic Posted December 23, 2011 Author #3 Posted December 23, 2011 ive been removing plugs and soldering as i go along. i did the connector for the pick-ups too. thanks for the heads up.
skydoc_17 Posted December 24, 2011 #4 Posted December 24, 2011 Hey Mike, What a nice job you are doing there! Thanks for taking the pics. This is another one of those jobs that the average VR owner shies away from, but shouldn't. Your new gasket is on the way, USPS Priority Mail. I am always impressed when a VR owner does a repair/upgrade on their bikes like this one. Ya' done good Mike! Earl
