ragtop69gs Posted December 22, 2011 Share #27 Posted December 22, 2011 As for me, I lean towards the caffein-free Coke coz the only time I drink Coke is with my rum and that is generally in the evening. That way I can still get to sleep and have less of a hangover in the AM If you like your Rum & Coke, you should try it with Sailor Jerry rum (spiced)
Gray Ghost Posted December 22, 2011 Share #28 Posted December 22, 2011 As I was growing up in Texas, when you ordered tea it was what is now referred to as sweet tea UNLESS you ordered hot tea or unsweet tea. For years whenever I was stationed in the north I would order sweet tea just so I could tell the wait staff that they were uncivilized when they didn't have it. Then the first time I came back to Texas with Elizabeth we went out for lunch while visiting my dad in the hospital. Of course I ordered sweet tea and those @#$%%^&&**(), !@@##$%^&(&)*^(&*%, **&(*^%&%&^%$'s said they didn't serve it. I have since found that very disturbing un-American trend throughout the south. My geeky wish is to someday gain access to a time machine so I can go back and find the jerk that started that and make him/her disappear. And yes, I am also one of those that if I am told "will Pepsi do" says No.
SilvrT Posted December 22, 2011 Share #29 Posted December 22, 2011 If you like your Rum & Coke, you should try it with Sailor Jerry rum (spiced) Not sure if we can get that up here in Can Nuh Duh ... but I'll look for it. I have tried other spiced rums but I much prefer Demerara which comes in the brand of Lemon Hart. It's from Guyana. I found a couple other dark rums I really like but for the life of me I can't remember what they are .... imported stuff from Jamaica I think .... maybe it was the rum that caused me to loose my memory... Drkngas Posted December 22, 2011 Share #30 Posted December 22, 2011 My favorite cokes are Dr. Pepper and Big Red. If I am in the mood for my coke to be a cola then I choose Coke (preferrably Mexican Coke with real sugar, not HFCS) first then RC Cola second. Seldom Pepsi. I do prefer Sweet Tea over any cola as long as it is brewed and sweetened with real sugar. Did anyone else used to purchase the tall bottles of cola (10 or 16 ounce) and pour a bag of peanuts in the bottle? That was a common snack in my youth. Pegasus1300 Posted December 22, 2011 Share #31 Posted December 22, 2011 I am always pleased when I ask for a diet coke and they tell me they have Pepsi. I prefer Diet Pepsi but will drink Diet Coke because that is what most places have. I wish they would carry diet 7 Up or diet Sprite or something besides brown. Freebird Posted December 22, 2011 Share #35 Posted December 22, 2011 When growing up in NE Texas, you asked for a Coke. They then asked what kind and you told them Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper or whatever kind you actually wanted. If you ordered tea, you got a tall glass of sweet ice tea. First time I visited California and they asked me what I wanted to drink, I simply said tea. When they brought the cup of hot water with the tea bags, I didn't know what the heck their problem was. Just over the past 2 or 3 years, sweet tea has become fairly common here in the Ohio and surrounding states. McDonald's, Burger King, most places offer sweet tea along with unsweetened. I tell you what...regardless of how many packages of sugar you put in a glass of unsweetened tea, it NEVER tastes the same as REAL sweet tea. Trader Posted December 23, 2011 Share #37 Posted December 23, 2011 It's pop...as in soda pop. Tea is actually any drink made from the leaves of a plant. You can have mint tea or whatever. The thing I find funny is when I ask where a bathroom is...folks in the US look at me like I'm from mars! Bathroom....Restroom....doesn't really matter...if you are in a resturant or most any public building, you don't go to that area to rest or bath! Oh....and calling Tim Hortons "Timmy Ho's"....SAY WHAT?
SilvrT Posted December 23, 2011 Share #38 Posted December 23, 2011 If you like your Rum & Coke, you should try it with Sailor Jerry rum (spiced) Well, as luck would have it when I went shopping for my "holiday cheer" last night, they had Sailor Jerry spiced rum ... so I bought some and didn't waste any time testing it! YUP.... good stuff!!
Sailor Posted December 24, 2011 Share #39 Posted December 24, 2011 Don't drink any colas, just ginger ale. When I was a kid I drank Kik cola. I have been known to indulge in a few "wobbly pops" or "road pops". We were in a restaurant in Loughland one time. The couple at the table next to us ordered spinach salad flambed with 150 proof rum followed by lobsters with garlic butter. To drink, diet cola. I was tempted to send them a bottle of wine. steamer Posted December 24, 2011 Share #40 Posted December 24, 2011 When I was growing up in NJ, early 60's, I would take my nickel to Hoffmans drug store and climb up on the stool at the soda fountain counter and order a chocolate soda. Seltzer and chocolate syrup. That was the best.
halfwitt Posted December 24, 2011 Share #41 Posted December 24, 2011 Coke or Pepsi is important to some! I don't care but my wife and daughter insist on Pepsi only. If you go to Las Vegas and you care...here is the map for you! http://www.vegastodayandtomorrow.com/coke-or-pepsi.htm
Sailor Posted December 24, 2011 Share #42 Posted December 24, 2011 I once left a can of coke sitting on my boat for a month. The coke dissolved the can. Made quite the mess.
