The GoPro 1080p HD Helmet Hero is today's featured deal on Woot! today, 12/17/2011. It is $129.99 + $5 shipping.

If you've not been to Woot!, they feature one product until it sells out or the day ends. So if you miss this sale today, you are out of luck.

Their description is frequently amusing....

Gleaming the Belt

Thank you for your submission to our DVD series. Unfortunately, we do not currently have a need for “extreme treadmill” footage.

On the positive side, the production values of your submission are stellar. The 1080p HD video you obtained with your helmet-mounted GoPro camera made me feel like I was right there in the gym, enjoying a low-impact workout while watching an Everybody Loves Raymond rerun. Until that guy on the next machine changed the channel on the gym TV, that is. Then I felt like I was watching Piers Morgan.

But generally, our audience prefers extreme sports POV videos where the subjects are actually in motion. Even better is if they’re in a perilous setting, or executing stunts with a high degree of difficulty and danger. Simply turning up the speed and incline levels on your treadmill is not sufficiently intense to compete in today’s crowded extreme-sports-video market.

Now, if you were to take your GoPro HD Helmet Hero

, or
, or
, the resulting video might be of interest to our viewers.

If you feel that extreme treadmill is your one true calling, the only possibility for inclusion in one of our videos would be if your Helmet Hero captured a spectacular fall on or from the treadmill. We will consider footage of any fall in which you break bones, become unconscious, or lose at least a pint of blood. But please do not intentionally injure yourself by falling on purpose. Our viewers can tell the difference.

Thank you -

GutScream Xtertainment

Features:

  • Professional quality, Full HD Video – 1080p, 960p, and 720p in 30 and 60 fps (720p). The HD HERO offers three different HD resolutions, giving you three filming modes to capture the best angles for any given activity:
    - 1080p: 1920×1080 True HD featuring a 127º angle of view, 30 fps, and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
    - 960p: 1280×960 Ultra Wide and Tall HD featuring a 170º angle of view, 30 fps, and 4:3 aspect ratio. See more of the action above and below than widescreen 16:9 resolutions can show
    - 720p: 1280×720 Ultra Wide HD featuring a 170º angle of view, both 30 and 60 fps, and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
  • Shoot hands-free, 5 megapixel photos automatically at 2 / 5 / 10 / 30 / and 60 second intervals until the batteries die or the SD card is full (2.5 hours). Or set it to single shot, triple shot, or self timer for more traditional photo taking
  • You’ll only be hearing the sounds of your sport, not the howl of the wind with the HD HERO camera. The HD HERO uses 48kHz, AAC audio compression and a built-in mono microphone with AGC (automatic gain control)
  • The rechargeable 1100mAh lithium-ion battery (included) lasts for 2.5 hours of constant recording. It can be recharged to 80% capacity in just 2 hours when plugged into a computer’s USB port, or in 1 hour when plugged into a USB compatible wall or car charger. Cam can also be used while charging…handy on road trips where it’s fun to leave the camera rolling. Also features an integrated battery heating system for keeping your battery warm in winter activities
  • Don’t let a little water, or even a ton of water get in the way of getting the shot. Proven in heavy surf from Hawaii to Tahiti, Southern Mexico to Northern California, HD HERO cameras can handle it thanks their highly engineered polycarbonate exoskeletal housing. Waterproof to 197 ft (60m) and tough enough to take a spin across the asphalt, GoPros are built to take a beating
  • Switchable NTSC/PAL output for watching recorded video directly from the camcorder on your NTSC or PAL analog television

Thought that "today" was a bit variable, added the date.

Was just getting ready to post this when you beat me to it. Of course, I wasn't going to post until I purchased mine.:smile5:

My Dad has one of these and they are great. Fantastic price.

Tried to buy one .... the form suggests "State/Province/Region" yet doesn't have a choice for British Columbia, Canada ... yet it asks for a "Postal Code" ... not a Zip code which would be the usual case for USA. :confused24: :confused24:

You need to have a friend in the States... I just bought one and gave them Bob's address.. Their policy is $5.00 shipping for any item. Cannot be done to Canada...

Bob has been AMAZING. I get stuff shipped to him all the time because of the difficulties involved sometimes or even just the price difference.

Do you know someone close to the B.C. border that would be willing to let you use their address?

:sign yeah that: :bang head::bang head: I normally check woot every night, forgot last night, figures.

Usually things that get that kind of response will get posted again in a couple of weeks. I check WOOT every morning, but slept in till after 6 this AM. Already sold out. At first I was a little disappointed... Dang!! But then asked myself when the 'H' am I going to use it, and even at $135 bucks it's too much sitting for more than it should.... (insert sour grapes emocon here) :) So for those that did pick one up we want to see lots of video's...... :whistling:

Dang! I had talked to the guys at a local bike shop yesterday and they had their last one of that model and said I could have it for $200.00. Not bad. Stopped home for a minute before heading out and saw this post. Yea! Hit the WOOT and SOLD OUT. Boo!

Guess I'm going for a bike ride out to their shop today anyway.

Would have been a nice savings. :bang head:

Hey MIke before you spend 200 bucks on a gopro you might want to spend 150 on a Drift they seem to be a bit more streamlined and they have a remote control so youre not fumbling for a button. It is also water tight and has the wide angle lens that a lot of other cameras dont have. A couple of members here have them and seem to enjoy them, I think its Scotty that posted a vid here a while back. Here is the thread with his video in it http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64731

There are 5 left on ebay here.

Actually, I have a drop point in Blaine ... I could have had it shipped to there but ..... yanno, kinda like condor says .... I thought about it and figgured .... how much will I really use this .. :confused24: not a lot and frankly, I have other things that take priority for my $135 ... like RUM 'n RIBS or something LOL

Plus, we have a nice little camera that takes pretty good video so I just couldn't justify spending the money on another camera.
