eagleeye Posted December 17, 2011 #26 Posted December 17, 2011 Holy Cow! To say that you hit the jackpot is an understatement! your dad will show you how to use that surface grinder. That will end up being the most usefull piece of equiptment you got. I've logged many hours on that exact one. The bandsaw, same thing. That one is as good as it gets, and you will get used to welding up blades, BUT it is also the most dangerous piece of equiptment that you got. Be very carefull when using it. Congratulations on your find. Steve
Snarley Bill Posted December 17, 2011 #27 Posted December 17, 2011 the knife edge straight edges are good in a pinch and fairly accurate for roughing in. we use granite blocks and indicaters that read in tenths of a thousandths. all the surface grinding we do is on okamoto surface grinders with electro magnetic chucks. they are the cats meow in accurate surface grinding. we often finish parts to + or- .0001 tolerance. we use mitutoya digital mikes exclusively. they are the best. they will read out to 1/2 of a ten thousanth. the old school machinist are being phased out by the new cnc equipment. there is still a call for us old guys for the one off fixtures and many other hand made things.
