Dang, Brad what did ya do move back to Michigan ? That sure sounds like the burbs around the mitten, I thought things were doing good in Texas ? Everybody working and so on....

It's not bad, but the house hasn't been lived in for a couple of years and it became easy pickins for the undesirables. The folks were buying it from said they would split the cost so who am I to argue with that

:confused24: Believe me, anyone coming into our house unannounced, will meet the business end of several fine manufactured firearm companies products :)

which of course presupposes that you are home when they pay you a visit.........

Another security alarm provider is the Brinks Company.

Know several in the rural area I live that use them and are happy with their service.

Like everything they do a little or a lot, and their prices vary. Would be another one to get a bid from and check out.

I have a question for the masses, as I know we have a greatly diversified group of folks here. The new house that Lonna and I are moving into, has in the past been burglarized and they stole copper wire and such. We are going to install an alarm system as the owners of whom we are going to purchase it from in a couple of years, have agreed to split the install cost in half with us.

We checked into ADT, and I guess they think their stuff and product is gold. Price was not what I would have thought and they were very pushy to have it installed immediately. There also was a quote from FrontPoint security, lots of the bells and whistles like ADT, but more reasonably priced.

My question for y'all is, have any of you dealt with this FrontPoint and or other security companies, and what insight can you pass on to me about the industry for those of you in the know?

we had a neighbors house get broken into and decided it was time to get an alarm system, went with ADT had to sign a contract but all the equipment was free. we did pay installation also be sure to ask about AARP, or Military discount if it applies to you. the only false alarm we had was one day after working night shift I was sound a sleep and that siren went off, the house phone went to ringing before I could get to it my cell phone was ringing. I got everything reset talked to someone from the monitoring place also my wife called from work she had gotten a call to. I checked everything I could think of decided it was a false alarm and went back to bed you would be surprised at how many things make noise when you can not sleep. so I got up turned on my computer and checked the cameras that I installed myself come to find out a bird yes I said bird had flew into my patio door and the sensor pick up the vibration. oh what a relief that was and the bird flew away hard headed birds around here.

Squid,

I installed my own system several years ago and I also put one in my parents home. They are not difficult to install if you have a basement. I have door switches, glass break detectors, and motion sensors. I bought most of the components online. I have a siren outside and one inside and it is loud. In our area it doesn't do much good to have the system monitored because we only have a sheriff's office to respond and they only have a couple of people on duty at nights. I can have it monitored if I want to but I use it mainly as a deterent and noisemaker. I also wanted to know if someone comes in the other end of the house while I am asleep. They only time I've had a false alarm was when the cat knocked a glass shelf down and it set off the glass break detector. I believe I installed mine for around $600.

As a retired municipal police officer I hate noisemakers, would rather catch them in da house, garage or just in the act . . . If you are in the country that might be different depending on your sheriffs dept and distance from a town. . . There aren't a bunch of burglars but rather a few doing a bunch of burglaries.

Since I live right at the county line in the event of a burglary it would likely take the sheriff 10 minutes to get here and he would probably be too late. I want the noise for three reasons. One to let me know someone is coming in, to make some noise to draw attention to the house, and to annoy the burglar.
