and beating some sense into him???

yesterday , at noon, i was coming home for lunch. driving 55, the posted speed limit.

on my left side, a young man in an old ford explorer, blew by me, followed by a young man on a BIG crotch rocket!

the explorer pulled over into my lane, and the idiot on the bike jerked it up on one wheel, at about 65-70 miles an hour and rode it that way, for a 1/2 mile or better, accelerating all the time!

i thought to myself! what an idiot!

on the way into town, about 2 hours later, i saw the SAME blue and white crotch rocket, in pieces, in the back of a pick-up truck, going back into town!

the bike had no seat, no handlebars, no windshield no exhaust pipes.pretty well torn up.

i don't know about the rider, but i have to assume he ain't in the best of health, today!

please be safe, when you ride, and please , if you get a chance, PREACH safety to these young broncs!

Wow, sorry to hear that and do hope the rider some how made it OK. I saw almost the same thing (guy pulling a wheelie @ 70MPH) on 101 Saturday - he came up along side of me and another riding buddy on the freeway, looked at us for couple of seconds, then pulled this wheelie stuff. Don't know what they are trying to prove - but that scared the bee jesus out of me as someone could have very easily pulled in front of him and we all would have been in a ticklish situation.

I've done a lot of stupid things on 2 wheels, but some of the stunts I have seen recently have affirmed why most people (cagers) have little or no respect for the rest of us. Of course, my stupid things were conducted while fully in control.

My brother-in-law (wife's sister), was an HD guy, spent all his money and no time riding, went to the sport bike side (used to ride in Germany on the autobahn), and after looking at my bike today (84 Standard), said that he would like to get rid of his Buell Lightning and get something more like mine. When I told him that my 730 pound "sled" would do 12.5 seconds @ 105 mph in the quarter mile, his jaw dropped to the ground!!! He has finally come to his senses and may leave "the Dark Side". Thankfully he hasn't dropped his bike in a long time. I myself wonder "why" these crotch-rockets feel the need to put themselves and others at risk with their riding. Go to a track if you need to feel that!

never wanted to yank anyone off a bike but there are thousands in cars i could blow away.i agree these kids do some stupid things on these bikes (kind of reminds me of me when i was young and had little sense).as far as cagers go ,as i said before i could give to hoots what they think of bikers or me on my bike.they are the ones that are out to kill us.alot of these youngsters are ultra fantastic riders.i wish i had there skills.they amaze me what they can do on motorcycles, bicycles, and skate boards.there are some very talented young riders out there and alot that are just plain stupid.thats just part of being young.they will grow up.theres alot of them that can handle a bike better on one wheel than alot of riders can on two wheels.just my perspective. :2133:

Had a guy in my home town who was an absolute lair. He rode a Honda Blackbird and his favourite trick was to do a wheel stand from one set of traffic lights to the next. I'm a former LEO, and after seeing a couple of this guy's exhibitions I contacted one of my former (HWP) workmates and suggested that they knock on his door and tell him to pull his head in.

Before they had a chance to do that, they had to go there anyway to ask his girlfriend to acompany them to the morgue to identify his body.

Yep - you guessed it - he popped one too many wheelies and buried himself in the side of a car.

You should have seen the tributes and accolades that poured out from his friends, and were published in the local paper.

My letter to the editor was never published. Why? Because the truth would have hurt too many people.

As I tell a lot of people, "He'll never do that again!"

I gotta go with Predock on this one... Personally,,, newbie riders on big streetbikes riding in groups scare me wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more then a skilled rider on the back wheel... If a biker is doing 70 on the rear wheel for miles on end,, or going stop light to stop light and dropping the front end perfectly and in total control,, he is my kind of guy.. If a guy is pulling out of an intersection on his freshly polished scoot wearing gorgeous biker clothing and stalling every few feet and then I stop to help him and tell him to try a lower gear and he says STUPID BIKE,,, whatda mean different gear?? THAT is the one I stay away from!!!

I have been asked by several relatives to help them get streetbikes.. My policy is that if I am involved you will ride with me on the woods for one year before we start looking at streetbikes.. Part of their "training" constists of controling your bike on one wheel, also low speed trials riding (if you cant crawl your bike at an idle speed while standing on your pegs fully loaded saddlebags and all and then come to a complete stop before stepping off your pegs you really are not able to control a bike).. I have two nephews that both took me up on the deal and they are both VERY good street riders,, DO NOT touch a drop of booze and extremely well versed at defensive driving,, including being able to raise the front wheel at anytime to jump a curb if necessary... Yea,, total control wheelieing is definitly a wonderful tool for the box and if you see it and dont realise it,, you are seeing many long hours of practice and a very skilled rider... If they werent they would have dropped their bike within a few feet......... Not that accidents still dont happen..

Bikes are the ONLY vehicle that this stuff applies to though,, any drunken fool can climb on a snowmobile, trike motorcycle, car, boat or what ever,, pull the trigger and kill people.. Little more difficult on a bike,,, in order to show off you have to have obtained a certain level of skill or ummmm you fall........

As usual,, different perspective but mine....

Well I read all this stuff........Bottom line is wheelies, tricks, speeding, the spirit of the young, has no business on the street. Yep they are skilled, some can do things I never even tried and I am the one who practiced for two weeks till I could ride a dirt bike on the railroad rail. This stuff will get you killed on the street, and I also agree that no one should get on the street with a big street bike until you can stand on the floorboards in gravel and sand and even run the cones standing up, and come to a complete stop without putting your feet down......I can and do.......and this is the mistake I make when I read some thread like new rider advice and see someone complaining about how top heavy the Venture is ........hey mine is not top heavy, it is a great powerful, balanced machine, I love it more than any bike I have ever had........yes you need to learn to handle a bike.....any bike before you hit the street........but all those tricks we all used to do......do not belong on the street. But you do have to remember, these kids do not have the freedoms we had, or the places to ride we had, so they do play on the street.......some survive to become bikers with some sense......some do not. I have two sons with bikes.......they are getting better........but I still have to threaten them with death to stop some of this nonsense!!

I have heard that the scientific community is working on an ANTI-STUPIDITY pill, but it’s still a long way off. You can’t stop people, especially young people from doing stupid things. We all have done things that were stupid, some just happen to be lucky enough to survive them. I have often wondered how I lived this long.

Most of these wheely riders do it to be disrespectfull. Unfortunately they just happen to be doing it on a bike. They're of the same mindset as those that tag walls, cage race on the freeway, smoke tires at intersections.... etc. Notice they always do it when they can remain anonymous. It gives them a sense of power over others, and a disregard for the law. Why? Because they don't have any in their regular mediocre lives. No different that these kids running around with their baggy pants and their ass hanging out. They do it because they know it bugs you. Laugh at them and maybe they'll go away?? My 2¢

i love crotch rockets,in fact i love all bikes.bikes are my ultimate hobby .most of all i like high tech very fast bikes.i live eat and sleep bikes.ive got five of them and ride them all year round .i agree, these kids should not do these things on the streets in traffic.i think to buy one over a certain horsepower, there should be a mandatory riders course completed before it leaves the showroom floor..i have a zx 14 that is rediculously fast. i have added many things to make it faster.thinking seriously about a turbo. do i need it ,heck no,but i want one. its my right to have one. sure kids do dumb things. if i would have had this caliber of bike and been as good of rider as alot of these kids are,i would have done it in the 50's.like we venture riders never ride the dragon and talk about dragging our floor boards and do a little dragracing with each other.i see it and have been a part of it at most of the meets i have been to.it's the natural human behavior called competition. most all of us do stupid things and break the law on our bikes.i've followed alot of venture riders through thousands of twisties riding at the limit on my rstd.nothing wrong with that, but it is breaking the law and stupid, mostly when our better half is on the back. not trying to create a major argument here just giving my perspective on the topic.bill :2133:

Been looking for an opportunity to post this thought. I strongly believe, if we had a lane just for motorcycles, we could prove just how safe we are as drivers. This is just a guess; cage drivers probably have an accident rate of 20%. Motorcyclists maybe 2%! Wonder if some Insurance companies could shed some light on this? Of course current percentages would be based on accidents in shared lanes with all vehicles. Which counts all the wrecks we have that are caused by the cagers. And this is unfair. Motorcycles are being DRIVEN. Cages are being occupied, by people the car companies have convinced that the car drives itself. And they can watch TV and play games with the kids while their vehicle is in motion. OR TALK ON THE PHONE. Example; I had a car pull out into my path while I was passing a tractor pulling a haywagon, in a legal passing lane on a country road. Lucky for me I was driving our station wagon. Unlucky for them they were driving a small economy car. My car cut theirs in half just behind the driver's seat! Yes, they pulled into my path "head-on". AND THEN SUED ME IN CIVIL COURT! Which they lost of course.

:soapbox:I absolutely despise those jerks who choose to deliberately put others in danger just to impress themselves and try to feed their infantile ego. When I read about one of them crashing, all I can think of is how much that helps improve the human gene pool. It's a damn shame they have to hurt the image of all motorcyclists on their way out!

gee goose, do i see a little hatred here.personally i don't care what people think of me when i'm on my bikes.i'm not out to ceate an image like i'm a perfect person. if they don't like the image that i create they can kiss my petuty .i don't dress and ride, to look good for other people. i have to put up with idiots in cars everytime i ride even when i'm in my car,and i'm tired of it. i'm a very ultra safe driver and very curteous toward other people and i expect the same respect and don't even come close to getting it. snarley bill :sign29:
