GolfVenture Posted December 6, 2011 #1 Posted December 6, 2011 Has anyone installed a "Rear View Safety Camera System" on their Venture? If so how is it working for you?
Kirby Posted December 6, 2011 #2 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) Don't need one, nobody gonna catch me anyway!!!! Let's just see how the 1st Gens respond!!! Edited December 6, 2011 by Kirby
Yammer Dan Posted December 6, 2011 #3 Posted December 6, 2011 If you are going to look for the 1st Gens you need to put it on the Front of the bike!!
bongobobny Posted December 6, 2011 #4 Posted December 6, 2011 I have one on mine, but it does not work out as well as I hoped using it as a rear view mirror. It does work fine for backing the trike into a parking spot, etc...
Kirby Posted December 6, 2011 #5 Posted December 6, 2011 If you are going to look for the 1st Gens you need to put it on the Front of the bike!! Oh I see now! One the front so I'll know when to slow down and let them get off the road? Good idea!! Thanks!!
saddlebum Posted December 6, 2011 #6 Posted December 6, 2011 If you are going to look for the 1st Gens you need to put it on the Front of the bike!! But it better have a zzzzoom lens if you actually expect to see a 1st gen *****************
MiCarl Posted December 6, 2011 #7 Posted December 6, 2011 I just stop every 20 minutes and have a cup of coffee while I wait for the 2nd gens to catch up.
Flyinfool Posted December 6, 2011 #8 Posted December 6, 2011 I just stop every 20 minutes and have a cup of coffee while I wait for the 2nd gens to catch up. Cup of coffee????? I'm sure you meant Ice Cream cone ..... Did you forget where you are?????
dmoff1698 Posted December 6, 2011 #9 Posted December 6, 2011 I installed a camera on my truck because the rear visibility is nonexistant!! I found myself watching the camera when going down the road more than looking where I was going. Bad deal in any vehicle!!! Ended up rewireing it so that it would only come on when the truck was in reverse. I would pass on a camera for the bike unless you have more willpower than I.
GolfVenture Posted December 6, 2011 Author #10 Posted December 6, 2011 I installed a camera on my truck because the rear visibility is nonexistant!! I plan on hooking it up to a push button switch, so when pushed it is on and let go it is off. I made a bracket that holds two switches that goes next to the horn button. See picture. The picture might need rotating, but the square hole goes over the horn button and the two round holes will accomodiate two push buttons and the other small hole is the mounting screw that is used to keep the horn/etc switch housing together. I'll probabaly need to scrape some paint off the left of the horn button to the metal part of my bracket so can be welded using JB Weld. Heck if I don't like it on the Venture I can install it for my RV.
rickardracing Posted December 6, 2011 #11 Posted December 6, 2011 Eyes on the road, not on tv screen. Same goes for a cage.
Guest Slab_Ryder Posted December 6, 2011 #12 Posted December 6, 2011 Agreed, exactly why I won't put a GPS on my Bike or in my cage
Gray Ghost Posted December 7, 2011 #13 Posted December 7, 2011 The distraction issue is a matter of training. I have a camera on my RV and use it like you would a rear view mirror. I suppose if the monitor was mounted near mirror level you could scan it fairly easy. IMHO my GPS is less of a distraction than a tank bag map. With voice prompts about upcoming turns I am not trying to glance at a piece of paper and figure out where I am from that glance. Or trying to pull off the road in traffic to read a map. Your rear view mirrors or that pretty flower can be a distraction if you let it. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Yammer Dan Posted December 7, 2011 #14 Posted December 7, 2011 The push to see button would be great. I don't want anything but the morons trying to kill me getting my attention.
Riderinthesnow Posted December 7, 2011 #15 Posted December 7, 2011 I've installed one on my ST. It works fine. My camera has 170degrees field, but if I changed it I would go with a narrower field (110o) to get a longer depht of field.
