pickinfred Posted December 4, 2011 #26 Posted December 4, 2011 If you must have a camera with the ability to use different lens, filters and etc., I had and would recommend a Canon T2i or newer with higher MP. I agree with the earlier posts about a point and shoot camera. I bought a Nikon Coolpix P-300 in April after reading the specs., I love the fast...f-1.8 lens....it makes low light shots without a tripod easy work....has a 4X optical zoom...HD 1080...12MP and most of all fits nicely in a vest/jacket pocket so its always near. For a bike camera I think its great. The Canon T2i was always in the trunk. The attached pic was done with the bike camera. http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikonusa/en_US/pd/productID.226110900/ThemeID.18145600/Currency.USD?CID=SEM-0910-Bing_for_nikon_p_300 Bvinson....."Simply Amazing Work"
Midrsv Posted December 5, 2011 #27 Posted December 5, 2011 I would throw another vote in for Canon DSLR's. However I think the recent (last 3 or 4 years) Nikons have caught up to Canon. I've been shooting with Canons since their original DSLR, the D30. Since then I've used a 20D, 40D, 5D and 5D Mark II. For a bike camera I carry Canon SX230HS compact camera. It is a pretty good compact with a long zoom and good low light performace with a CMOS sensor. I paid about $350 for mine and I noticed today Best Buy has it in their sale flyer for $199. A good deal I think. Dennis
dacheedah Posted December 5, 2011 #28 Posted December 5, 2011 I have a T2i and it will take pictures in sports mode frame after frame at 18 mpix. Awesome pictures and you can go point and shoot or advanced. I have a rebel slr and the lenses and attachments will work on it and that made it even more awesome. . .
MikeWa Posted December 5, 2011 #29 Posted December 5, 2011 I like Canon as well. My everyday carry around is a G9 which does a pretty outstanding job on it's own. My thought is no matter how good the picture op is you can't do anything unless you have a camera with you. The G9 is easy to pack along. That said any Canon DSLR will take some great pictures. It just depends on the features you want and the lens you can afford. I am currently shopping for a 7D. Mostly because of the speed and movie taking ability. Just remember no matter what you buy or how much you spend you can always upgrade. That is what keeps the camera companies in business. Mike
chabicheka Posted December 5, 2011 #30 Posted December 5, 2011 Looking to upgrade my digital camera from a point and shoot to an SLR Digital, I hear a lot of good things about the Canon EOS Rebel. Any others out there that I should consider. Money is a concern, trying to stay under $500.00. I know we have a lot of camera buffs here and hopefully they can help me with this decision. EOS Rebel is a good Choice for DSLR in the 500 dollar range.
DragonRider Posted December 5, 2011 Author #31 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) I thank everyone for their input, it has been very helpful. I found an internet deal through Amazon that I think is pretty good compared to all the others I looked at. It is a Canon EOS Rebel T3. Here is what it comes with, 2 UV filters, 55-300mm zoom lens,18-55 mm lens, 59" tripod, carry bag, 2 rechargeable batteries, charger, 16 GB sd card, card wallet, lcd screen protectors, & camera/lens cleaning kit & usb card reader. All under $650.00, and that includes shipping. I went a little over budget, but its the best deal I have found anywhere. Haven't ordered it yet, so if anyone knows of a better deal I would love to hear about it. I really wanted the Rebel EOS T3i mainly because its lcd screen is adjustable and it can be swiveled when closed so the screen is not exposed, but its way over my meager budget. Again, thanks for all the help. Edited December 5, 2011 by DragonRider
Bvinson Posted December 5, 2011 #32 Posted December 5, 2011 Lewis, Also check out B&H. I have been using them for around 5 years. It is a great store with excellent service. Prices are very good and a lot of times the shipping is free. I buy just about all of my electronic equipment from them. Do a Google search and check out what everyone says about them. Hope you enjoy the new toy
Yammer Dan Posted December 5, 2011 #33 Posted December 5, 2011 Going to get me a camera that works one of these days..... right after I get that garage!!
Wolf Posted December 5, 2011 #34 Posted December 5, 2011 I plan to upgrade from my Olympus DSLR to the Cannon T3i as well, probably right after Christmas.
