dingy Posted December 1, 2011 #1 Posted December 1, 2011 What is the spell checker app for this site that works in IE8. I prefer Firefox, but even with a new install of Windows 7 and a new download of firefox, it keeps crashing on me so I'm using IE full time now. I can't type worth shirt, so I missplell a lot and don't get them highlited in IE8. Gary
Keemez Posted December 1, 2011 #2 Posted December 1, 2011 I found AVG SAFE SEARCH add-on (if you use AVG, that is) to be causing repeated Firefox crashes. It was highly annoying. Disabled that addon and FF (3.6.24) behaves flawlessly again.
dingy Posted December 1, 2011 Author #3 Posted December 1, 2011 I found AVG SAFE SEARCH add-on (if you use AVG, that is) to be causing repeated Firefox crashes. It was highly annoying. Disabled that addon and FF (3.6.24) behaves flawlessly again. I am running Avast. I could try scaling it back and see if that helps. I like FF much better. But I am stuck with IE at work, and I use it a lot there for work related stuff. Gary
Prairiehammer Posted December 1, 2011 #4 Posted December 1, 2011 Gary, I tried FF8 for about three days but it was too buggy, even with all the add-ons and extensions disabled, so I went back to 3.6.24. No crashes or freezes. Try going back to 3.6.24 As to how to make IE spell check...haven't a clue, sorry. I've never used it except to check malfunctioning sites for FF incompatibility. Try this? I can't vouch for it...it is the first thing on Google search results. http://www.iespell.com/
rstacy Posted December 1, 2011 #6 Posted December 1, 2011 I have been using iespell for years. I never had a problem with it. I just found out that iespell fails on its own name!
mgosset1 Posted December 1, 2011 #7 Posted December 1, 2011 Goggle Chrome has spell check works great...I use a older version of Windows but it don't matter.....
Mel Posted December 1, 2011 #8 Posted December 1, 2011 Well, when something doesn't look right to me or I suspect that I've erred, I reach for the Merriam Webster.
Condor Posted December 1, 2011 #9 Posted December 1, 2011 This may be a good reason to stick with IE 7Pro.... I've almost pulled the trigger on upgrading, now I'm glad I didn't...
Ozlander Posted December 2, 2011 #11 Posted December 2, 2011 ieSpell, been using it for years. http://www.iespell.com/
MikeWa Posted December 2, 2011 #12 Posted December 2, 2011 Another vote for IeSpell. I have used it for years. Mike
dingy Posted December 2, 2011 Author #13 Posted December 2, 2011 I use http://aspell.net/win32/ Couldn't find a 64 bit version for this. Trying ispell, but don't like it because it is not dynamic like Firefox, requires seperate action to initiate. Gary
Freebird Posted December 2, 2011 #14 Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) I don't know of a dynamic solution for IE. IE spell is integrated into the forum software but it requires you to click on the little abc icon in the upper right of the editor. I'm not sure that it works correctly in IE 9 though. Even though I just installed it, it seems to work fromt the tools menu but not by clicking on the icon. It does work with a right click though. Edited December 2, 2011 by Freebird
BradT Posted December 3, 2011 #15 Posted December 3, 2011 requires you to click on the little abc icon. When I click the ABC button it asks me is I want to download IE Spell. Thought it was part of the site or do I need to download it ? Brad
Freebird Posted December 3, 2011 #16 Posted December 3, 2011 See post 14. I will try to figure out if there is a solution.
bongobobny Posted December 3, 2011 #17 Posted December 3, 2011 After trying several, I have discovered there is no perfect browser, they all have their good points and bad points...
Skid Posted December 3, 2011 #18 Posted December 3, 2011 I have IE spell downloaded, and I use my own saved under the Tool tab. If I click on the abc here in the mesage, it also asks me to download.
