I wasn't alive in 1957, however I was able to keep my meds, both OTC and script in my purse/backpack throughout my school years. Even was able to keep my feminine products with me as well. Also was allow to keep a bag of candy in my purse in case my blood sugar dropped and I felt I was blacking out. To my parents that was making me responsible. Now I hear all those things aren't allowed by the students. And Adults in the education system and workplaces wonder why teenagers and young adults can't be trusted with responsibility? I think there's a correlation there.

Working in the classroom (I handle in school suspension) I see all of this as a problem.

As an example, I was sharing how I got my first and last paddling in the very school I work in (and by the same man that is my boss now after 42 years) and the first response I received from every child in the room was something to the effect of ...They wouldn't touch me like that or I would have them arrested.

Right here in CLT this past week a kid was in trouble for taking a cough drop during school. The statment was made that they could actually overdose on them if they had them or get high from them.... I laughed my backside off.

It is sad but true where we have gone.

Kids today are not taught being responsible for their actions unless they have good parents. Most of the time they spend most of their energy figuring out how to blame everyone and everything else.

This my friends is why I closed my business and started doing what I do know.. Hopefully, they will hear and understand one day.

OK, now off the soapbox.

I was in school in 1957 wait wait - I was enrolled in school until February 1959. In 1960 I joined the US Army, the absolute best thing that could have happened to me at that stage of my life. I was not in any way shape or form a contributing member of society until I woke up in the barracks at Ft. Knox Ky on March 1st 1960. ( about 3 am if I remember correctly )

I cannot express enough the effect it had on me. I will forever be in debt to the US Army and the instruction I received the first 9 months of duty.

I'm not ashamed to admit that as an individual, I needed that experience and I am a better person for it.

Yes I did get my a$$ tanned in HS more than any other 6 people in any of my classes.

No, the word "Government" was used in a less than flattering way...:stirthepot:

It's just as political as the Wall street movement...

You're confused Dan? So am I! I still can't figure out what the Wall Street movement has to do with politics either, other than it's Capitalism vs Socialism, but 2 threads got deleted because of it (politics). If you can figure it out let both Charlie and I both know...

I guess that this is just not going away. I had hoped that it would just fade away and everybody would just let it go. The link to the video that Charlie posted was blatantly political. The entire occupy wallstreet protests are political. How can you possibly separate it from politics? If any of you read the comments at the bottom of the video, they were nothing but vile attacks between the left and the right of the political spectrum. It wasn't just the video but the contents of the page where it was posted.

I'm going to leave it at that. I'm sorry that not everybody always agrees with all the decisions that have to be made here and I won't say that we ALWAYS get it right but we do the best we can.
