GolfVenture Posted November 17, 2011 #1 Posted November 17, 2011 I need to replace my clutch and brake fluid in my 91 VR. It has 7000 origional miles and I'm pretty sure it could be the origional fluid. Any special process I should consider. Open to fluid type recommendations and why.
bongobobny Posted November 17, 2011 #2 Posted November 17, 2011 Well, recommended is DOT3 and I also recommend synthetic as the boiling point is a lot higher. Use a vacuum pump and expect to see a lot of crud come thru. Keep flushing until the liquid is clear...
jilldwr Posted November 17, 2011 #3 Posted November 17, 2011 I second the vacuum pump, I found my Mighty Vac a very worthwhile investment. I Also put speed bleeders on my Goldwing when I rebuilt the brakes, that really simplified the process.

jilldwr Posted November 17, 2011 #5 Posted November 17, 2011 http://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_hvpk.asp#MV8000 Sold at Napa autoparts for around $60 with gauge I believe, cheaper without gauge. The advantage of having the gauge is testing the vacuum when rebuilding carbs. If you don't plan on ever rebuilding carbs, you could do without the gauge.
