fredfloon Posted November 14, 2011 #1 Posted November 14, 2011 Can i change the circuit breaker from 5 amps to say 15_20 amps without blowing up the electrical system? I need to run a 12 volt air pump which has blown the 5 amp fuze tout de suit (PDQ) both times i've tried. Any thoughts? FF
Kirby Posted November 14, 2011 #2 Posted November 14, 2011 Don't think the wiring will take it. I just wired in a separate aux. plug for just that purpose. Located it just below and behind the front seat on the left side sitting on it. No more worries!
Freebird Posted November 14, 2011 #3 Posted November 14, 2011 I agree. I don't remember for sure but it seems that the wire going to that receptacle is only about a number 20AWG or something like that.
Rick Haywood Posted November 14, 2011 #4 Posted November 14, 2011 I have a battery tender so I wired up a dc aux plug with a battery tender end that I then just plug into that. I use mine for charging cell phones at night when we camp and also blowing up air mattress. Works perfect.
V7Goose Posted November 14, 2011 #5 Posted November 14, 2011 Never ever ever ever ever replace an existing fuse or circuit breaker in ANY house or vehicle with a larger fuse. This is NEVER safe. Goose

Run a new load ckt from the battery with a fuse of your choosing. Mike
camos Posted November 14, 2011 #7 Posted November 14, 2011 My battery charger charger came with a two prong bullet style connector that plugs into a pair of alligator clips. I wired a fused connector to the battery to make it easier to attach the charger. When I bought an air compressor it came with a power point socket which I cut off and put the bullet type plug on. It's inexpensive and works great.
