mikentinamidnight Posted November 13, 2011 #1 Posted November 13, 2011 here's the deal. i have the chance to buy an 86 venture that is in need of most of the plastic parts. the saddle bags and the trunk are in decent shape but the rest is pretty much toast. it supposedly runs ok and it will need a battery, tires and the valve covers are leaking. it looks like it has been down on the right side but it wasn't very hard. do you all think it is worth 300 bucks? would it be worth the money after having to buy all new plastic? it is something that i would get going and give to my son and his wife. thanks mike
chabicheka Posted November 13, 2011 #2 Posted November 13, 2011 worth if you like working on bikes and you have the time... i would rather look for one in better condition and pay 2000 bucks or so.
Yammer Dan Posted November 13, 2011 #3 Posted November 13, 2011 worth if you like working on bikes and you have the time... i would rather look for one in better condition and pay 2000 bucks or so.-*- :sign yeah that: Would depend a lot on your knowledge of plastic repair and paint. How many of the accesories worked. Air ride, CB, radio, Intercom, cruise are nice to have. There is a easy fix for valve covers. Battery at Advance right now for less than 60 bucks with Promo code. Tires couple hundred bucks. Kendra is about cheapest of those worth putting on in my opinion. You really need someone to look at it that knows a little about these things.
bongobobny Posted November 13, 2011 #4 Posted November 13, 2011 Mike, I should have salvageable/repairable plastic for you if it will help...
mikentinamidnight Posted November 13, 2011 Author #5 Posted November 13, 2011 thanks all this would be a project that my son and i would do together and would be done on a shoestring budget. i just didn't want to sink a couple grand into it if it wont be worth it in the end.
camos Posted November 13, 2011 #6 Posted November 13, 2011 If the plastic is trashed but the rest is good you might consider doing a variation on this.

camos Posted November 13, 2011 #8 Posted November 13, 2011 I like some of the mods that guy did!! Me too, the one I am most interested in is the handlebar risers.
tooldood Posted November 20, 2011 #10 Posted November 20, 2011 Or you could buy one or both of mine. I've got a freshly painted 87 and a 86 that needs paint. I haven't ridden in better than a year and don't see it in the upcoming future. Call me at 702-232-1613 for more info or details. Scott
DragonRider Posted November 21, 2011 #11 Posted November 21, 2011 I loved what he did with it in the first pic, the white looked really cool. I think he went the wrong way with his mods, my personal opinion............the rat bike would have looked better with different pipes though.
wes0778 Posted November 22, 2011 #12 Posted November 22, 2011 thanks all this would be a project that my son and i would do together and would be done on a shoestring budget. i just didn't want to sink a couple grand into it if it wont be worth it in the end.
