masterofyard Posted October 31, 2011 #1 Posted October 31, 2011 I might be able to get a 1985 venture with 60,000 miles on it for about $800. Was curious to know if this year bike has that problem with the weld breaking by the swing arm that I have read in a couple of posts and if the bike is actually worth buying or should I look for a later model?
Snaggletooth Posted October 31, 2011 #2 Posted October 31, 2011 You are in the clear on the frame issue. That was primarly on the '83 and early '84's. The only failure known on the '85's was the 2nd gear problem and they corrected that after a known VIN number. I'm sure someone will post that number here when they see this post. For $800.00 it should be a decent price depending on any known damage or missing parts. And make sure the 2nd gear issue is fixed or past the VIN number I mentioned. The second gear problem seems to pop up around the 60,000 mile mark for a lot of guys. Not a deal breaker if you're handy with the wrenches and feel like cranking open the case. It can be done as a DIY project. Many here have done it. Let us know how it works out. Mike
