Extending Drivers Footboards On Royal Star

Recommended Posts

I have searched this forum and the Internet and have not found a resolution, so here it goes. There are may sources for footboard extensions for the Road Star, but I can't find anything for the Royal Star except possibly new footboards and mounts from Baron. I am 6'3" and would like to extend and tilt the boards, even if I lose some cornering clearance.

Any advIce is appreciated!

Is there any reason why highway pegs wouldn't work?? They also make a highway floorboard that looks kinda nice if you want something with a wider foot rest....

I have too seen the extensions and wondered what if any difference do they make. They allow you to move your feet inches from the floorboard. I didnt think it was much different. WOuld love to hear from those who have it .

there is also someone on this board who used some alumini um bar stock and made his own by bolting the stock to the bottom of the floorboard and at the tip he used a nut and bolt. for being able to hook your foot onto.

Thanks Condor,

I will be going with either the either the Baron engine guard or the Kuryakyn Adjustable Mustache Bar and highway pegs in addition to any footboard modifications.

After looking at pictures of the frames, it looks like extending the controls on the Road Star is easy due to a flat mounting surface. The Royal Star frame appears to have recessed bolt holes making the mod more difficult. I just can't believe that no one has solved the problem.

I bought generic folding highway pegs for my 2006 RSV and mounted them right there on the crash bars behind the lowers. They look great and give me a few more inches to stretch out. I'm 6'3" so this was a good move for the long trips. Only downfall is they can't be folded in as they come close to the gear shift and brake pedals at the angle I have them installed so that my feet won't slip off but it's a small price to pay for the added comfort.

This must be a very difficult modification. I am going to do a bit or wrenching this weekend to see for myself, and report back here what I find out.

Might have to go with forward controls if I can't extend the footboards. Anyone know where I can find a used set?

This is what I did @ 6'-2", I find most of the time my heels are on the front portion of the floorboards and the ball of my feet are on the highway pegs. They fold up tight against the lower wind wings, which work great as well to cool the feet during hot weather and close them for additional wind protection in the cooler weather.

Yep, that's where my feet end up as well, and an identical highway peg set up. Very comfortable position and I'm 6'6'. :thumbsup2:

You just wanted to tell everyone that you were taller than me. LOL Anyhow I have many friends that are envious of my height, which I don't think I'm all that tall. There are many times I wish I was a little shorter like in some sports cars. I had a friend that was 6'-8" and 320 lbs he played ball for the JETS, my brother @ 6'-4" and me @ 6'-2" were the little guys when we were with him.

Not bragging... :) Let's put it this way.. at my age I've shrunk a bunch. But I've also packed on too many extra pounds, and still can't get into a sports.. no.. 'little people's' car. :whistling: :backinmyday:

The highway peg setup you guys have looks like a very confortable one. I might just go with that and be done with it. Thanks for the advice. Not having the Venture, I will need to put an engine guard on it first.

I gotta tell you, I would like to own a small good handling sports car like the Miyata but I can't even sit in it much less drive it.
