Not Showing Licenses Plate in Photo

Why do some cover up the licenses plate before showing a picture of their bike?

I really dont know some people do that, but sometimes when uploading a picture of a car or a bike to a website they wont accept until you block the licence number.

I have heard some people say it is because they don't want the 'wrong' people to be able to obtain where they live by getting information from the license plate info. This is the same reason yo will see it blurred on TV and the news.

Yep, just a way of protecting yourself from some riff raff. Tracing a plate number not only leads to where the bike may be parked or stored but can also lead to a shop filled with tools and other items of interest to a person with no respect for what you own.

Always thought the practice was a bit unusual myself . . . considering everyone on the road following you can see & read it . . .

My impression is that up to lately some states would give you the address of a plate number for $5 or something.
