Kirby Posted October 19, 2011 #26 Posted October 19, 2011 In my opinion, I think it makes people forget how to spell correctly. They do this because they are lazy and they don't want to think about what they are about to say, they just want to give a response. Just as cursive writing is quickly becoming a lost form of writing, so is the overall ability for people to spell correctly. I hate it when people that I'm working with are constantly sending and reading texts. It's as if these people have no idea that their phone is actually a TELEPHONE! You can't tell me that the text can convey the same message, faster, with feeling, that a simple call will. This is how a lot of misunderstandings get started. Then it takes even longer to try to get things straightened out. Examples: Look at this forum. How many times have people gotten their feelings hurt because of a message that was taken the wrong way?

While I agree with what you say for the most part, the one advantage I see to texting versus phoning is that each person can send their text when convenient whereas when you phone someone, it can disrupt something that they are doing or some other "inconvenient" time/place...
steamer Posted October 19, 2011 #28 Posted October 19, 2011 Lets see...I'm 56yrs old. The majority of my life I spent talking to others face to face or talking on the phone. Now all of a sudden I have to remember how to spell. Haven't had to do that since H.S. I wasn't a very good student. So for those who don't like my spelling ability...get over it.

Brad :sign yeah that:During a big family dinner my Daughter in law will sit there texting through dinner, in the mean time my grandson is tossing food all over the place, which she just conveniently ignores and this really iritates me. When we were kids we were not even allowed to answer the phone if it rang during dinner.

Time to talk about a few things. Arrange a time and I tell them my feelings and what I want to be done. We discuss it and come to an agreement and that is it. It seems to even bring us closer by doing this. Listen to their side to, but stick to your guns. Fuzzy
AKRefugee Posted October 22, 2011 #34 Posted October 22, 2011 It doesn't bother me if it is spoellled correct or not. I have an advanced degree in Typonese.

Sailor Posted October 22, 2011 #36 Posted October 22, 2011 I do not have a cell phone, don't want one. I do not answer the phone at home. I always let it go to the answering machine. This is because when I did answer the phone 99 times out of 100 it was for my wife. I would ask the caller if they wanted to leave a message, they would say "no, I'll call back.". Then I had a problem. If I did not tell my wife that someone called she would get mad at me when they called back. If I did tell her she would get mad at me because I did not get their name, what they wanted and the time they were going to call back. Either way I was doomed so I just quit answering the darn thing.
Venturous Randy Posted October 22, 2011 #37 Posted October 22, 2011 When I started texting, I realized how anal I am. Not only did I spell the words out, I also had to punctuate. I down loaded IeSpell a long time ago and it works good for me. I don't think some folks realize how easy it is to go back and edit/correct a post after it is posted. RandyA
BradT Posted October 23, 2011 #38 Posted October 23, 2011 Either way I was doomed so I just quit answering the darn thing. Now that makes perfect sense. Brad
Sailor Posted October 25, 2011 #39 Posted October 25, 2011 The English language is the richest in the world with the largest vocabulary. It is being reduced to moronic grunts through I pod, twitter, tweet etc. How can you compare " I shall wreak vengeance upon you and wreck havoc with your life" to something like " I gon SU ovr":crying:
spear Posted October 25, 2011 #40 Posted October 25, 2011 Sorry, forgot to proof read my post. http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php Thank god for that. You are human, after all.
