Solodadof2 Posted October 21, 2011 #26 Posted October 21, 2011 rick good to hear you are having safe travels, having met you and ridden with you you got my vote for love riding(NOT). Enjoy your trip as Shirley is getting ready to go on hers when you get back.
Rick Haywood Posted October 21, 2011 Author #27 Posted October 21, 2011 Rick, Glad to hear you made that rough ride in the first seasons cold spell. Found the great riding weather of Fla. this time of year. Enjoy you visit with family and the scenic area of the Keys. Wish I could make it. Wife was wondering what heated vest did you end up getting, Good time to try with cold temps and rain. Thats the type test she wanted. Later Be safe! Brian & Sherrie Brian, tell Sherrie that it is a used one and is a jacket and it is a Harley Davidson one. the thing that confused me was I couldn't feel it working and then realized it had to be because it was 42 degrees and pouring rain and all I had on was a long sleeve shirt, the heated jacket and my rain coat and I was toasty warm. I know people who have the synergy vests and like them but wished they had gotten the jacket to help keep their arms warm. I sam going to get one for the wife when I get home and will let you know what I went with and how Shirley likes it.
Rick Haywood Posted October 21, 2011 Author #28 Posted October 21, 2011 WARNING MIKE AND BRYAN DO NOT READ THE WEATHER HERE SUCKS YOU WOULD BE GLAD YOU DIDN'T COME ALONG. OK what a great day, not a cloud in the sky and 72 degrees. Rode with just a leather jacket and saw some nice roads. Tomorrow I will meet up with a couple of guys I know and they are going to take me on a really nice ride on their favorite roads. Weather tomorrow, Sunny and 75. I TOLD YOU GUYS NOT TO READ THIS:whistling:

dynodon Posted October 25, 2011 #34 Posted October 25, 2011 Rick, glad you made it through that first day. Getting out of Illinois can be nasty! If you make it to the central area of S. Florida, try to stop by Ave Maria. Catholic Disneyland....no really! I am not Catholic, but the wife and I enjoyed stopping by there. They have this amazing church in the center of the town square, with the entire village (schools, grocery, gas etc) set up so it is almost totally self-contained. Interesting shopping in the stores around the central part of town, and some good restaurants. Although roads are flat and straight for the most part in central Southern FL, it is still good riding. Not worth a huge side trip, but if going through anyway, try to see it. If riding across the southern tip of FL take 41 rather than Alligator alley. A great ride is south on county 29 from 41 to Everglades City to the Everglades Rod and Gun club for lunch or supper. Well worth the ride, then keep going south to the end of the road a few miles in Chokoloskee. Send pics from the Keys, that is one ride I haven't done yet, maybe next year! Safe riding my friend.
Rick Haywood Posted October 26, 2011 Author #35 Posted October 26, 2011 Well I am winding down my motorcycle trip and going to start heading home on Thursday. I have rode about 2100 miles so far with around a 1000 left to go. The weather other than the first day has been perfect. Sunny and between 74 and 84 degrees everyday. I spent time with my Niece in Gainesville and as always really enjoyed seeing them. Went to Fort Myers and spent a couple of days with my brother who I hadn't seen in 11 years and of course that was a really nice time. Stopped in Sarasota and saw my brother-in-law and sister in law. The biggest news was I found out I had a cousin whose father is my Uncle who was killed in Viet Nam in 1969. I had the opportunity to meet him and his family who live in Bradenton Florida, I had a great visit and I hope it was as enjoyable for him and his family as it was for me. I am now in Panama City Florida at my sisters place and it is so nice to see her and my brother-in-law. I always have a good time when I am with them. Remember, whatever happens in life make sure you take time for family and friends who you care about because you do not know what tomorrow will bring. Give them hugs and tell them you love them. I am very lucky to have been able to visit family and have the time to make this ride. Well I will post more when I get home with some pictures also

And you will have to go right through them to get back here. Ride SAFE and NO FRONT BRAKE! PS And it didn't even take a Root Beer bribe. Bryan
