Hello.

 

Not a big nut on my bike but decided to see wat kinda umphhh my 86 Venture Royale 1300cc had the other day in the first few gears. WOW!

 

I hit over 60 mph in second gear in a short time. Im impressed! RR

If you think the '86 is fast, ride an earlier MK1 with the 1200cc! Top speed in 3rd gear is supposed to be 93 if I recall right.

 

You can really wind out these 4 cylinders out, and they like higher RPM's. You should be able to hit 80 in 3rd if it's running right...

The old girls can be kind of fun when some of those "other" guys that always what to pass you and and give ya the "look" as they do. Makes them nuts when you hang along with them and when they top out you pull up next to them and hit 4th gear and walk away.

 

Yes, looks can be deceiving. An old man on a 27 an almost 30 year old bike? How much of a threat can that be? :smile5::rotf:

 

We used to call them sleepers.

You should be able to hit close to 50 mph in first and 75 in second gear on a fairly stock 1st gen. You should be under 8,000 rpms, which is slightly over a conservative factory red line of 7,500.

 

These motors don't start breathing good till at least 4,000 rpm's.
