reddevilmedic Posted October 15, 2011 #1 Posted October 15, 2011 found these surfing around. will these work on my mk1? seems a lot easier than changing forks. http://www.qualitypartsonline.com/r1_r6.htm.
dingy Posted October 15, 2011 #2 Posted October 15, 2011 They will not work correctly with the stock MKI rotors. The MKI rotors are 298mm, The VMax's uses a 282mm front rotor in 85-92. 1993 was when VMax went to 298 front rotors. Gary
reddevilmedic Posted October 16, 2011 Author #3 Posted October 16, 2011 what if you changed rotors? they appear to be the same bolt pattern. what im saying is, 83vr forks, with 85vmax rotors, those adapters and r1 calipers.......
dingy Posted October 16, 2011 #4 Posted October 16, 2011 Rotors are interchangeable between 1st gen Ventures and 1st gen vmaxs as far as bolt patterns between wheels & rotors.. There are some minor thickness differences, due mainly to venting design changes. Front to rear will even interchange, I have a VMax wheel on rear with a rotor from front of MKII Venture on it. MKII rear rotor is somewhat unique due to it's offset design & diameter. Gary
reddevilmedic Posted October 16, 2011 Author #5 Posted October 16, 2011 so, i wonder if the adapters would work....hmmmmm
Squeeze Posted October 16, 2011 #6 Posted October 16, 2011 those would work ... because the Seller says "R1/R6 to early V-Max caliper adapters (1985-1992) (use '93 and up rotors) " But you need the bigger 298 mm Rotors, Vmax, older FJR Models and several other Bikes from Yamaha use these.
Condor Posted October 16, 2011 #7 Posted October 16, 2011 those would work ... because the Seller says "R1/R6 to early V-Max caliper adapters (1985-1992) (use '93 and up rotors) " But you need the bigger 298 mm Rotors, Vmax, older FJR Models and several other Bikes from Yamaha use these. Squeeze!! Where ya been? Missed ya buddy.... All rotors on the MKII 1stGens are 298's also. I think the original poster needs to know if the adapter will work on his '83 with the narrower 88mm bolt pattern and get away from swapping out the MKI forks for MKIIs with the 100mm pattern. From the way it reads the adapter is designed to work on the '85 V-Max. If the '85VM's had the same caliper as the 83, then it would work, but I think Yamaha went to a 4 piston caliper on the 85VM, and maybe the '85VR too?? This part makes sense, but don't know if they did it for sure?? The adapter may work on the MKII VR's if someone wanted to upgrade their calipers to the late model V-Max calipers, but sadly if someone wanted to go to any 100mm bolt pattern caliper on thier '83 they are still going to have to swap out the forks....
