Brian D. Posted December 23, 2007 #1 Posted December 23, 2007 hi all, new to this site, presently ride an 02 suzuki volusia which i absolutely love but an looking at a nwe 07 venture blue/black and their price is 13,900.00 I think that's a good deal in that that is quite a drop from 17,300.00. Anyway have sat on one with wife on it and we both fell in love with it, I would like your thoughts on the weight balance in town riding and relibility of the bike it. also being it is a 1300cc how is the power in low gears as well as on the highway passing high gears. thanks and you all have a great website. brian d.
Orrin Posted December 23, 2007 #2 Posted December 23, 2007 Brian, I had and 04 Volusia. Great bike, but the Venture/RSTD is way, far, more, lot's, better. It is a heavy bike and kind of wallows a bit when at parking lot speeds, but once it is moving you will love it. I think you a getting a good deal. Welcome and Merry Christmas
buddy Posted December 23, 2007 #3 Posted December 23, 2007 Brian for that price I'd keep my mouth shut on where its located at or you may just loose it. nice price for an 2007 model. buddy

Come for a holiday to California. Tell them Ian sent you and they may even do better!
ken Posted December 23, 2007 #5 Posted December 23, 2007 If it feels good buy it, quick before the 07 are all gone. You can't go wrong with the RSV. I had an 05 and loved it. It was nothing to do an 800 mile day with the wife. Set the cruise, crank the tunes and enjoy. I'm 5'6" and never had a issue with the weight, except when it came time to back up. The bike was just a bit tall for me at the saddle. I sold it and brought a new HD ultra. I've only been able to put a few miles on the HD so far so I can't say at this point if I'll like the HD over the RSV. I can say the RSV had great power 2 up. Never had an issue with passing. Most of the time I would just twist the wrist and gooooo!.
stardbog Posted December 23, 2007 #6 Posted December 23, 2007 Brian First Welcome to site. Venture is great bike, all of us can tell you that. First thing I'll change on new Venture is tires. Go with Avon Venom and you'll see a difference in low speed handling. Dealer in Chicago is selling 07 Blue / black for $12,999.00 dont know is that good deal for you to get 1000.00 less and trailer bike back to ohio. anyway good luck.
Pilot Posted December 23, 2007 #7 Posted December 23, 2007 $13,000 for a new 07, id go to California, but even $14k is good..................Man I paid $17,000 a few months ago. That was the best price I could find in San Angelo, San Antonio or Del Rio. I'm always on the wrong side of the track when it comes to buying things. It's a great bike you will get used to it and the price is well lets just say you can't go wrong. Merry Christmas.
Guest KitCarson Posted December 23, 2007 #8 Posted December 23, 2007 The Venture as far as I am concerned with one exception(does not have ABS) is the very best bike on the market. And to top it off it is the least expensive, but do not let that influence you, it is the bike that shines. The V-4 motor is so highly responsive and develops rpm so quick, it is an absolute joy to ride. Plenty of power, and above all it is very comfortable, so much so nothing else comes close. You are going to get a lot of comments about changing tires....top heavy, wallows in the corners........if you own a venture you are going to drop it, hey remember that suzuki when you got it? Was a little awkward the first week or so wasn"t it? And still if you were on a dead end road with six inches of sugar sand would you still not feel a little awkward? What I am saying is the Venture is a great bike, by far the best one I have ever had staying withing traditional style. Handling comes with use and as you get comfortable on it, it will be just like any bike, a part of you. Some fellow on here the other day explained it well.....it is technique, with any bike......if you have two bikes.....same year, same model....side by side, each one will handle a bit differently.........just the way it is.... You will love the Venture.......take it slow and easy, get used to it, within two weeks you will forget all about how it handles and just be wanting to get off work so you can ride 20 miles to get a Sunday Paper. That is what I want to do right now.......go to Swansea to get a paper, it is only 34 miles.........but is sprinkling rain......guess I will go to work on the bath floor........after lunch....no need to be in any hurry.......besides it might stop raining...........
Midrsv Posted December 23, 2007 #9 Posted December 23, 2007 Brian, I recently paid 13,800 for an 07 so your deal seems fair to me. I've been riding RSVs for over two years now and have put 40,000 miles on the two that I have owned. I moved up to the venture from a Vstar and it take some getting used to. I commute to work with it and run errands around town all the time on it. It was great getting out yesterday on it to do some Christmas shopping. The power is fine. Not as strong as a Goldwing but still more than adequate. The RSV is the best value on the market. DT
Roadhand Posted December 23, 2007 #10 Posted December 23, 2007 Buy it! Great bike, great warrenty! Great website! Happy Holidays.
beyeker Posted December 23, 2007 #11 Posted December 23, 2007 I here a lot of low prices quoted here. The dealers in north central Wi do not add anything to the price. I know a lot of other dealers around the country add frieght and setup, etc. to the price. I've had 28 motorcycles, my 2007 blue/black is my 3rd Royal Star Venture, I highly recommend it to anyone. My 5'6" wife drives it sometimes and I drive her Road Star Midnight Silverado.
debelt Posted December 23, 2007 #12 Posted December 23, 2007 I paid $13,500 ($15,200 otd) for a leftover '05 (new) in December of 2006, so that's a pretty good price you're being quoted. I had been admiring the RSMV for a couple of years when I stumbled across this deal. I wasn't really in the market for a new bike, but couldn't pass up a deal like I was given. I've had no regrets as this bike has surpassed all my expectations and then some. If you want an awesome long-haul tourer, you can't go wrong with a RSV. It's Yamaha's best kept secret. It's amazing how many people have never even heard of the RSV. I get compliments all the time and people are always asking me who makes it (before they read the badging). Don't be fooled by the 1300cc displacement, these bikes will scoot once you learn to ride them (the V4's power band is a lot different than a V-twin). Good luck on your decision
Jercoupe Posted December 23, 2007 #13 Posted December 23, 2007 Did the Volusia to a Tour deluxe to a Venture! This is where I stop! You will love it once you get use to it!
Guest MotorCycleRadio Posted December 23, 2007 #14 Posted December 23, 2007 We just purchased our '08 Venture on 30 Nov. We are in our sixties and it is much more comfortable for us than the previous bike. And even though the previous bike weighed several hundred pounds less, the RSV is easier for me in slow speed turns.
Brake Pad Posted December 23, 2007 #15 Posted December 23, 2007 I have the 2007 Venture. the wife & I have traveled long trip, 3,000. miles & 5250 miles, pulling a full size trailer. The bike handles well, even on tight turns. For me, i baby it off the start, but most of the time I'm pulling the trailer., One day we rode 1076 miles, with the trailer in tow. the seats are like the best couch, you ever sat on. Set the cruise control, and sit back and relax i bought the bike in May of this year and have 14 thousand on it now. its a REALLY nice bike, and for a GREAT price too.....
DAN STEVENSON Posted December 24, 2007 #16 Posted December 24, 2007 Welcome! I bought a 07 in July, paid 16,300. I think you are getting a good deal. The bike is a little top heavy at first. It will take a little getting used to. I would recommend taking your time and learn the bike. I installed the Diamond R leveling links and the sterring is great. I also re-jetted the carbs, installed a set of roadhouse exhaust and modified the air boxes. These simple mods have increase the torqe and horse power. This is a great traditional bike, has the best warranty and rides like a dream. I don,t think you can go wrong for the price. Ride safe and enjoy the bike. Dan Stevenson
steinbjg Posted December 24, 2007 #17 Posted December 24, 2007 One other thing you could look at is changing your ignition module to a Dyna 3000, it allows you to by pass the rev limiter and get more out of engine
Brake Pad Posted December 24, 2007 #18 Posted December 24, 2007 for what ever reason, the cruise control, doesn't set at 100 MPH. whats up with that?
Guest KitCarson Posted December 24, 2007 #19 Posted December 24, 2007 for what ever reason, the cruise control, doesn't set at 100 MPH. whats up with that? If you are crazy enough to go 100 mph...you do not need cruise control, you need a helmet, and one of those old suits of armor the knights use to wear!!:bighug:actually I think it is factory set to a max of 80. Something like that....only played with it a time or two, know it would not hold much over that. And our speedos are about 5 to 7 mph off......it would set at about 85. Max
Color01 Posted December 24, 2007 #20 Posted December 24, 2007 If you are crazy enough to go 100 mph...you do not need cruise control, you need a helmet. I got my bike many times above the 100 mph...and it even reached the top speed... ( on the back roads between VA - NC )
Bummer Posted December 24, 2007 #21 Posted December 24, 2007 I got my bike many times above the 100 mph...and it even reached the top speed... ( on the back roads between VA - NC )100's about third gear shift point with a Dyna 3k. The thing is, at that point I'm not usually all that interested in the cruise control. I guess I must be getting old.
Brake Pad Posted December 24, 2007 #22 Posted December 24, 2007 Once you pass the Conoe Creek plaza, the Florida turnpike is pretty boring, and Its one area I hate riding through. So, the faster the better.
