DragonRider Posted October 12, 2011 #1 Posted October 12, 2011 I was on Facebook, checking in on Brayden Shields, he was the little boy who asked to have his picture taken with us while we were touring the hospital. I came across this poem written by his mother and thought maybe this might help some of you decide to help Brayden and other patients like him..........I was moved to tears by it...... ~ I WAS BORN A SOLDIER ~ I have been forced into a battle That I did not choose to fight, But the enemy will wage on So I will fight with all my might. My battle gear I traded For hospital gowns, needles, and IV's. No shortage of supplies, St.Jude has all I'll need. I will survive this battle, Starting now not tonight. Cancer didn't know who it messed with When it picked this fight. I was born to be a soldier. And a soldier I will be. Till the end of it all Or when I hear "You're Cancer Free". Now Cancer..., Don't come back later looking for me. I will not be here. If you even think about it , I will beat you!!! Sylvester Posted October 12, 2011 #3 Posted October 12, 2011 And at such a young age. I had it in 1983 and beat it, but keep getting check ups every year. God love the soldier!
DragonRider Posted October 12, 2011 Author #4 Posted October 12, 2011 Yeah Dan, it really does, especially when you have kids or grandkids around the same age, it could be yours instead of someone else's kids. I know if I were in those parents shoes, I would hope others would step up to help.............Thats why I do it. I have 2 healthy grown children with kids of their own and it really makes me realize how fortunate we are to have healthy family. This youngster really touched me and everyone else who met him. I will be receiving a DVD from St. Jude that features Brayden for St. Jude. When I do I will post it or part of it here. You may see it on tv by the time I get it. Really tugs at the strings Lew.
