GolfVenture Posted October 11, 2011 #1 Posted October 11, 2011 I purchased my 89VR (26500 miles now) a little over a year ago and the previous owner said the cruise control was made inoperable at the shop because he heard of a friend that got in an accident due to using the cruise control, so he said. I have no reason not to believe the reason. I would like to make it useable again. I share this thinking that one may proceed in a different manor than if it just malfunctioned. Your suggestions would be helpful if I could receive help from the simple to the more complex. On the road I press the cruise button on and it lights up green. Then I set the cruise and nothing. I have used the cruise on a 91VR, so I have some operation knowledge. Suggestions welcome. Thanks.
CrazyHorse Posted October 11, 2011 #2 Posted October 11, 2011 I have the same issue lights up green and nothing. Dingy printed up a very nice wiring diagram. In the tech section. Thats where im going to start. Lots of systems will make the cruise not function
Trader Posted October 11, 2011 #3 Posted October 11, 2011 I'll be watching this thread with great interest...as my cruise doesn't work either. But I think I know where to begin to look. It will only start when in neutral...so I believe I have an issue with my clutch switch.
Snaggletooth Posted October 11, 2011 #5 Posted October 11, 2011 My '84 gave me grief for a while when I got it. I could turn on the criuse and get the light. I'd slide the switch forward and get nothing. This was always on the highway. One day I was out at the park and roaming the roads there. Only rolling about 30 or 35 mph. I hit the switch and went to set the speed and it locked in. Great! But as I tried to do this at higher speeds it failed to set. I figured out the levers were so worn that when I was moving faster the levers were pushed back by wind pressure and it was kicking off the cruise. If I held the levers out with my fingers it worked fine at any speed. Awkward....hell yea!!! I made some plastic shims to try and it worked ok until they worked loose. I have not got around to making a decent long lasting repair. Something to cheack anyway. Mike
