Looking for advice from sidecar owners as to recomendations for a front tire replacement on my RSV and Hannigan side car rig? I have heard mention installing a rear tire backwards on the front. just looking for more information before i make a decision

For my trike I went with a rear tire mounted in the normal direction. My prefence was for the thread pattern to shed water in the normal way.

I used a Dunlop 404.

Although my hack is not mounted yet, I have installed fresh bearings in the rear wheel, pulled the drive shaft and lubed it, installed a new Dunlop D404 WWW, flushed the front and rear brake systems, and installed new rear brake pads. I have read from others that the front tire does not take the abuse that the rear tire does. I left my front Dunlop D404 WWW with over 10,000 miles on it on the bike. When the hack is installed, I will ride it through the winter to get used to it and decide about the rear tire and the front tire. I have spare rear wheel and may install a car tire on it for riding with the hack and keep the other wheel and tire for two wheel riding. If there is a problem with the stock front wheel I will get another front wheel and mount a tire backwords.

I went to a Meskner block K, side car tire, on the front. I have about 15000 miles on it and it is hardly worn at all. It rides good and handles good also. I run 35 pounds in it. The guy that recommended it says that I could get 40 to 50 thousand out of it.

That would work but how much of a difference it would make is negligable. Sidecars eat through tires very fast due to the crab walk effect cause by the bike and"dragging" the chair. its just how it goes theres a slight scrubbing effect from the chairs resistance. The front tire gets a lot less were than the back two and I've had fronts last two or three seasons. but it will depend on the amount of riding time you put on it.

A couple of years ago i put a Kendra Kruz on my rig . Its thick center was ideal for the rig and even though its worn its lasted longer than most. if you want to mount a good rear to the front I'd recommend one of those for the front as well. they wear like iron. I have one on my 85 as well but its thick center if not pressure adjusted right creates a weave as it rides on the center of the tread. That's my 2 cents.
