TARHEEL RIDER Posted October 6, 2011 #1 Posted October 6, 2011 does anyone have a stock clutch spring laying around from an upgrade? I have a friend who wants to remove the heavier spring and replace with a stock one.
skydoc_17 Posted October 7, 2011 #2 Posted October 7, 2011 Hey Frank, If you install a used, stock Clutch Diaphragm Spring from a bike that had a slipping clutch, then you will have a slipping clutch in that bike as well! If the amount of clutch lever pull pressure is the problem, then get a new stock clutch diaphragm spring from Yamaha, and you will be good for a while. (If you secretly have another kind of project in mind, contact me and I will hook you up! Unless you really are going to put a used, stock clutch diaphragm spring in your friend's clutch pac:doh:) Earl
RandyR Posted October 7, 2011 #3 Posted October 7, 2011 What is the problem you are trying to solve? What changes were made besides the stronger spring? was the 1/2 plate replaced with a full plate as many do? If so and you want a bit more of a slip zone, then going back to a 1/2 plate may be the answer.
wes0778 Posted October 7, 2011 #4 Posted October 7, 2011 What is the problem you are trying to solve? :sign yeah that: Since I put the upgrade in mine I haven't noticed any difference in the clutch lever pull. I have noticed that the clutch engages a little more aggressively, which (IMHO) I like. And yeah, why would he want to install someone's problem in his bike?
P-roy Posted October 7, 2011 #5 Posted October 7, 2011 I don't have one laying around, but am looking to do an upgrade as a preventative measure. I started pulling a trailer this year and thought a clutch upgrade would be a good idea. At this time I am NOT noticing any problems with the stock clutch. But I would be willing to make a swap, my stock for the upgrade provided there are no known issued with the upgrade you are looking to remove. Let me know.
TARHEEL RIDER Posted October 9, 2011 Author #6 Posted October 9, 2011 he is not having any problems, he just doesn't like the feel of the heavier pull. I did tell him about SKYDOC'S upgrade. I think he just wants more of a stock feel. He has ridden my 09 and likes it.
