hello any one know much about insurance company called farmers?

i just got done talking to dianne seems her friend a co-worker had his honda pacifica stoled sometime over the weekend? he got back home today and his garage was broken into. gone was the motorcycle and a john deere lawn tractor. im thinking some one had to have a huge trailer to do this? well they called farmers insurance about the bike. and the insurance company said he should file it on his home owners insurance policy?

that just makes no sense to him . i told him to get some pictures of the bike if he has some and maybe the vin number if he doesnt mind and maybe we can put a look out for it here on this site if thats ok with the boss? he said he,s not sure if he has pictures of the bike but he could call the P.O who put the ad up in craglist way back when he bought it and get a copy of it as it had pictures. now i see why rule of thumb here pictures man pictures. well any help i would be gratefull for. i cant realy help him. much but will try my best. i think he,s getting shafted by farmers insurance i mean after all he paid his premiums but maybe he dont have full coverage on that bike?

I had farmers some 30 years ago. At that time only a few auto body companies would work with Farmers so you had to go to one of their recommended body shops. In my 1st auto accident they did a crappy job on repairing my 1 month old Chev Luv. Never gone back to them for any Insurance needs.

State Farm tells you the same thing. Parked in your garage=homeowner's insurance claim.

G&V in all fairness it isn't Farmer's fault for crappy body shop work. I just don't think businesses in general like to deal with insurance claims. Granted Farmer's could have given the body shop a raw deal and the body shop just passed it along to you but my focus would have been on the body shop. Body shop probably agreed to be one of their shops as either way you look at it, it increases their bottom line.

Same with my insurance. Stolen somewhere else - use bike insurance. Stolen out of your garage, homeowner's insurance.

That's pretty standard in the industry.

Be glad it is on the homeowners insurance. He will only have to pay one deductable instead of two. Saved him $500 right there.

And it would be covered that way with my insurance also (however, I have homeowners and mc coverage at the same company - I think I am putting my agent's kids through college).

I think you will find out the John Deere will be covered under the Home Owners and the Bike will be covered under its own insurance policy. If your car is stolen from the garage it is not covered under your home owners same way with a boat. If it is insured then the policy it is insured under covers it unless it is something that falls under your liability part of your home owners such as a tree falling on your bike or car. This is what I was told my my agent a feww years ago when I asked the question.

Yep, had a big ol' oak tree fall on my boat during a storm. It was the neighbors tree on the fence line. Was told that his home owners didn't cover it.. act of god.., and mine didn't either. It was covered under the boat policy.... which wasn't in force.... :( Which does bring up a question. If a bike is non-op'd, partiually disassembled, and can't be ridden....or a pile of bike parts for that matter.... I wonder how they'd (the ins co.) treat coverage???

Illinois could be different but in 38 years as an insurance agent I have never heard of a homeowner policy covering the bike. There is an exclusion stating motorized vehicles licensed for road use are not covered by the homeowner. The homeowner policy isn't designed to cover motor vehicles, that's why there are auto and motorcycle polices.
