I am at the point of doing the water and oil sensors install. So what I have done is purchase an adapter for the oil (Sensor Adapter Oil Water Pressure Temp M20x1.5 -1/8 NPT from EBay) now while looking around I noticed that there are sending units out there that may work without moving the sending unit somewhere else and I'm looking for some assistance. I have the Auto Meter 1 1/2 electric gauge set which has an electric 100 psi oil gauge with that big sending unit. Now I have found what I think may work as a replacement sending unit but I have a question about it. The units are made by Standard Tru-Tech I also found a cross reference from Mercury Marine which shown below (and here is where my question comes in) that the 0-80 psi sending unit (5 bar) and the 0-100 (7 bar) there is no difference. 0-80 psi.........0-100 psi (5-Bar)...........(7-Bar) psi ohms...... psi ohms 0 240............ 0 240 40 103......... 40 103 80 33.5........ 100 33.5 Does this hold true with all oil pressure sensors or is it gauge specific? I have attached a photo of the sensor style I would like to use because it would fit I believe with no issues and the chart (pdf) I got this info from. Once I have it figured out I'll post some pictures for you. It's only running 6" aka Harley on motor style but I'd strongly consider this if running to the dash. Not sure where to get them but should be able to find right length. Gauge never reads above 80 PSI cold. You will be shocked how low the pressure on these motors runs with a fully warmed up motor!!! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And of more concern is the ability to perhaps be able to run the bike after an accident lays it down. Well, if I laid the bike down, I have the original plug that I can put back (carry it on the bike), therefor no oil leak to worry about. If you follow the instructions of my original gauge post in the tech library and route the oil line up through the existing clamps on the frame down tube, it is both invisible and totally protected. As for the pressure line mounting port, it is quite protected by the exhaust pipe, water pump, engine case, and floorboard mount. Any accident that could possibly damage this connection would by definition need to leave major parts of the motorcycle and engine laying free on the road. As for leaking oil lines - improper installation can cause anything to leak. If it is done right, there is no risk whatsoever. Goose Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

jlh3rd Posted September 27, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 27, 2011 if you read the posts for installing gauges...and i'm assuming that you mean installing gauges where the cassette player is.....i stated that i would not install an electric oil pressure gauge again..... i would install a mechanical..........the problem was finding a sensor/sender unit that would fit in the space by the right foot........i found one but the ohms rating has to match the gauge's rating or it will not work. ( $50) wasted) .....so if the sensor is mounted in the fairing....you gotta run a 3/8's inch line to carry oil to it.......a heck of a lot bigger than a thin 1/8 line......... About $90. Gary I wonder why they dont make a water temp gauge that mounts there? Seems like that would be pretty easy with the water pump hoses close by. PGunn Posted October 23, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted October 23, 2011 OK I have the sending units installed for the electric gages with photos and parts lists. I put together a PDF with all the information included. I ended up with the water sending unit in the same place as all the others have with just one adapter mounted into the head. The oil pressure was a different story it was a little tough getting it into position but by no means imposable it's in the same area as the oil filter.
