Denray hitch for 86 Venture Royal

I purchased a hitch from Denray. They said I should install a Denray hitch part number 71 on my 86 Venture Royal. After it arrived I held it up under the back of the bike to size up the installation. It doesn't look wide enough to attach to the saddle bag supports. I may be wrong but will know soon as I am in the process of removing a failed hitch. Has anyone else installed a Denray hitch on the 86 version of the Venture Royal? If so what was the part number of the hitch. Perhaps Denray accidentally packed the wrong hitch.

I have an 86 venture with a den-ray hitch, tell me where the part number is stamped and I can look for you..

I think I had one off my 86. Gave it away a while ago. here is a couple of photos and a drawing of what I had.

 

Icalled them a year ago and they said they never made these any more. I do know they still sell the ones for the 2nd gen

The hitch turned out to be the right one after all. I have it secured in place and am currently installing the relay/isolator/converter.
