jrsain Posted September 21, 2011 #1 Posted September 21, 2011 I own a 07 RSTD with 21K and I'm trying to compare some of the bikes features with past bikes I have owned. It seems like I do not hear my cooling fan run, or it is real quiet. I also have never seen the temp light on either. On my last bike which was a VTX 1800 you could definitely hear and feel the fan moving air when it would come on. I live in South Florida and the fan would come on any time you spent much time stopped and also when I would pull it into the garage and leave the ignition on.
Jethroish Posted September 21, 2011 #2 Posted September 21, 2011 Cannot hear my fan. Very quiet, but I have seen it cycling on and off.
Rick Haywood Posted September 21, 2011 #3 Posted September 21, 2011 Only when it's on.......sorry was just funnin ya. The only time I can hear mine is if I shut the bike off and then turn it back on. If I am in traffic or moving I can not hear it. I didn't know there was a light that came on on these
Danaman Posted September 21, 2011 #4 Posted September 21, 2011 They run very quiet and I am usually playing music which doesn't help. I have heard when I turned off the tunes and listened for it specifically on very hot days.
Mr.G Posted September 21, 2011 #5 Posted September 21, 2011 05 RSTD here with 40,000, and I never hear the fan. For awhile I wondered if it was working. However, one day while syncing carbs I could see it running.
wes0778 Posted September 21, 2011 #6 Posted September 21, 2011 I don't hear mine, but then again my wife says I don't hear much anyway. I hot weather with stop and go traffic the only way I can tell the fan is running is when I feel the blast furnace on my legs.
Galapagos Posted September 21, 2011 #7 Posted September 21, 2011 The voices in my head drown out the fan. I never hear my fan on the RSTD 06. I never have the light on either so I imagine that it is working.
Sleeperhawk Posted September 21, 2011 #8 Posted September 21, 2011 No, you will not here the fan. But as someone said, it does come on and since I have a temp gauge, usually between 210 and 220.
V7Goose Posted September 21, 2011 #9 Posted September 21, 2011 Very rare to hear the fan, especially if you wear a helmet. In fact, it is relatively rare for the fan to come on at all. You should NEVER have the temp light come on unless something is bad wrong. Even when kneeling by the bike doing a carb sync or mixture adjustment, I rarely hear the fan come on from extended idling - I do notice the sudden blast of hot air when it comes on, just cannot hear it under most conditions. Chinto Posted September 21, 2011 #10 Posted September 21, 2011 Never heard the fan run. I have watched it run but even then I do not hear it.
painterman67 Posted September 22, 2011 #11 Posted September 22, 2011 only time I hear mine run is when its hot and I shut the bike down woth the kickstand. I know Im supossed to use the kil switch but I always shut down with the kickstand. David

I know what you mean about the fan on the VTX1800. Very noisy fan. After a stretch of 75mph riding on the highway, just getting off the highway and decelerating down the offramp, I could hear the fan come on, thru my fullface helmet and earplugs, and all! I could never hear the fan on my 97 RSTD, and like you, I worried about it until I verified that the fan was running. Same thing on my 07 Venture, but now I don't worry about it anymore. Too bad they couldn't have made the primary gear as quiet.
